News in brief:

Virgin Atlantic extends the life of your miles …..

Virgin Atlantic announced the extension of any expiring Virgin Flying Club miles yesterday.

Any miles due to expire between April 2020 and September 2020 will be extended for a further six months.

To be honest, this is unlikely to impact many Head for Points readers due to the generous policy currently in place.  As long as you have earned or spent one mile in the previous 36 months your Flying Club miles are always safe.

….. and Tesco extends your expiring Clubcard vouchers

Tesco has extended the life of Clubcard vouchers due to expire at the end of May 2020 by six months.

This is a generous move, since Clubcard vouchers already have a relatively long two-year expiry date in the first place.  I can imagine, however, that some people had been holding onto them for ‘Days Out’, restaurant or theme park tickets over Easter which clearly fell through.

If you have paper vouchers at home with a May 2020 expiry date, they will not be replaced.  The bar code will continue to scan correctly until the end of November. If you now control your vouchers via the Tesco app, your online vouchers have automatically been extended by six months.

It is worth noting that this ONLY applies to vouchers due to expire this month.  The expiry date of all of your existing Clubcard vouchers will remain as it was.  That said, I would imagine that if you have any vouchers due to expire in August 2020 your odds of getting an extension are probably pretty good.

The current Clubcard points period ended on 7th May, and if you receive vouchers in the post then they should be on their way in the next couple of weeks.  Given that they are keen to raise cash, it will be interesting to see if Avios or Virgin Flying Club offer generous inducements to convert your points this quarter, as this generates a payment from Tesco to the airline.

Who won the 10,000 Avios in our competition?

A few weeks ago we ran a competition to celebrate reaching 10,000 articles on Head for Points.

As we couldn’t get the team together for a champagne breakfast, we decided to give away 10,000 Avios to one lucky reader instead.

And the lucky winner is…….

Peter D.

Congratulations.  We hope you can use the Avios for a well deserved post Corona break. We have already reached out to Peter so if you are a Peter D and are reading this – sorry, but it isn’t you.
