The new HFP chat thread – Saturday 16th May

We have decided to run this new daily chat thread on Head for Points.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the defacto repository for random comments and questions.  It is unlikely that the news flow will be so big over the next few weeks that we will need many ‘Bits’ articles, however.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are stuck at home self-isolating, we want the HFP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as its keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HFP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2020/05/16/the-new-hfp-chat-thread-saturday-16th-may/comment-page-1.  The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

We will continue to monitor how this is working.  Let’s see how it goes.  Take care!

Fintech alternatives for credit card top ups please, Curve metal doesnt appeal and recently banned from Monese for very little reason…is Revolut any good when it comes to fee-free top ups? Any others?

Unfortunately, because we couldn’t gather enough information, your account will now be closed.
We’d like to give you some idea as to why we’re unable to continue servicing your account at this time.
At Monese, we need to make sure that the use of your Monese account is compliant with certain legal requirements as issued by our regulator, the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). These are rules that we are required to follow in order to service you as a customer.

Anyone who takes advantage of Lloyds Banking Group offers to save money when paying Council Tax at the Coop – do any particular accounts seem to get the c@shb@ck offers more? Does a certain spend pattern on the card make them more or less likely to appear on your account?

  • FrenchLondoner says:

Out of curiosity, would the rebooked flights then give avios and TPs, or are they forced to be booked in reward buckets even in the case there was no avios availability on the new dates?? (and therefore not earning any TP or avios)

    • FrenchLondoner says:

Just realised my post above doesn’t make any sense… as the beginning is missing…

I have an avios booking which contains a leg which has been cancelled.
I was able to get the flights rebooked to a later date in the year, despite avios availability, thanks to the covid rebooking policy.
Will the rebooked flights give avios and TPs?

      • Harry T says:

Check the fare class they’ve booked into.

      • Rob says:

This is a good question. It is very possible they will, yes, although BA has a way of blocking this (Gold Priority Rewards already book into revenue seats and MOST of the time BA blocks the Avios accrual). Credit to another oneworld programme and your odds improve!

  • Mart says:

Just logged into our man-las booking
    Shows lhr-las now
Don’t know how we are supposed to get there but I’ll take it 🙂

    • mark2 says:

Revolut is much the same as far as closing account eventually if you do lots of tops up.

    • Charlieface says:

Pay a train yourself, claim it back
