The new HFP chat thread – Thursday 7th May

We have decided to run this new daily chat thread on Head for Points.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the defacto repository for random comments and questions.  It is unlikely that the news flow will be so big over the next few weeks that we will need many ‘Bits’ articles, however.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are stuck at home self-isolating, we want the HFP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as its keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HFP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2020/05/07/the-new-hfp-chat-thread-thursday-7th-may/comment-page-1 The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

We will continue to monitor how this is working.  Let’s see how it goes.  Take care!

Just cracked open a can of the St Austell Cornish Pale Ale used by BA, which arrived today. Lovely stuff, thanks for the tip, Rob. 👍

    • Alessandro says:

My local supermarket sells it in much nicer 500ml bottles

  • Anna (the original) says:

Just out of interest what happens to Virgin holidays if VS goes under? I don’t know if it’s classed as a separate company but presumably it’s still dependent on being able to use Virgin aircraft?

    • Shoestringo says:

They’re renaming it Virgin Atlantic Holidays. That’s a clue. Like Monarch if the airline goes the travel agent goes too

      • Anna (the original) says:

Thanks Shoestringo, my interest was piqued as I have only seen references to Virgin flights on here, not package holidays.

      • Rob says:

It never was a separate company, but now it is far clearer. You have ATOL protection though.

  • Ian says:

I’m trying to make a Virgin Flying Club redemption with KLM from Manchester to Bergen via Amsterdam in March 2021, in business class. The system says there are three seats available and I can select my flights, but when I come to pay it says the price is no longer available and to try again, I try again and the same flights are available with the same number of miles and taxes, but when I try to book it takes me right back to the beginning and says the fate is no longer available! Virgin’s website is frankly crap…does anyone know what’s going on?

    • Graeme says:

I got the same the other day. Called up, all sorted nice and quickly.

  • Andrew says:

First major offer in a while on my Amex, “The Sofa Workshop” (part of DFS) – 15% back when you spend £1,000.

I’m rather hoping for a matching DFS offer…

  • Richard Shakeshaft says:

It’s probably just me, but I think it would be really helpful if all articles on the site could have the date they were published at the top…

    • Rob says:

On desktop they do. We will fix this on mobile for the revamp. Sane with author name.
