The new HFP chat thread – Tuesday 7th April

We have decided to run this new daily chat thread on Head for Points.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the defacto repository for random comments and questions.  It is unlikely that the news flow will be so big over the next few weeks that we will need many ‘Bits’ articles, however.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are stuck at home self-isolating, we want the HFP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as its keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HFP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2020/04/07/the-new-hfp-chat-thread-tuesday-7th-april/comment-page-1 The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

We will continue to monitor how this is working:

we could potentially split it into a daily travel and non-travel chat thread

we may install some basic forum software

we may start suggesting potential topics for daily discussion

Let’s see how it goes.  Take care!

    Hi there.
We’re due to fly with BA to the US on 20/5 in CW using a companion voucher (expires 21/5/20) and have paid for seat selection. BA have emailed offering a voucher to reschedule without penalty but it’s not clear to me what would be included in the voucher (saw on HfP that the voucher has no details or expiry date on it). So my question is what is the best strategy to adopt re the US trip which is highly unlikely to happen as things stand (and what happens to the companion voucher)? At present I’m minded to wait for BA to cancel the flight as I don’t have any travel plans without flights within the 12 month period from 20/5/20 so the voucher doesn’t work for me and I think I’m right in saying that if I choose to cancel then it’ll cost me £35 per person and I’ll lose the £400+ worth of seat fees. Advice would be much appreciated………..

I think you are correct in your assessment – best to wait and see if the flights get cancelled for a full refund, as if you cancel yourself now you will lose those seat fees, and the voucher option has a number of issues that have been discussed at length over the past few weeks.

Any assistance would be appreciated. Bought some flights to NYC but the travels are on KLM and Delta with a stop in Amsterdam. These tickets however were ticketed by virgin. If for any reason, Virgin folds, does this mean the tickets are gone?

    I appreciate any help!
