The new HFP chat thread – Monday 6th April

We have decided to run this new daily chat thread on Head for Points.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the defacto repository for random comments and questions.  It is unlikely that the news flow will be so big over the next few weeks that we will need many ‘Bits’ articles, however.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are stuck at home self-isolating, we want the HFP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as its keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HFP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2020/04/06/the-new-hfp-chat-thread-monday-6th-april/comment-page-1 The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

We will continue to monitor how this is working:

we could potentially split it into a daily travel and non-travel chat thread

we may install some basic forum software

we may start suggesting potential topics for daily discussion

Let’s see how it goes.  Take care!

Why can’t all airlines (and travel companies) be like LOT.

Three simple options are listed on the website and doable online.

    1) Rebook. Voucher for later date +30% discount on next trip
    2) Reroute
    3) Refund

They might be at odds with Brussels on the rule of law but they follow the letter of EC261 closely.
That’s it. Learn from Poles, guys.

Full picture please. 30% discount on the fare basis only, on WAW-LHR that could be as little as 30% off £8 fare component. BFD.

50 EUR discount off a re-route is again off the fare which could be as little as €2 on some tickets and excludes all taxes and charges including YQ.

Plus for the latter, good look getting an agent who knows how to do it.

Refunds are as slow as everyone and they did the voucher scam for a while, plus they turned off the BSP for a while too, just like LH Group.

Not sure being like the Poles is a good idea…

At least they provide information and reassure you! I was expecting this from likes of BA and SWISS but in vain…

  • Grant says:

I know there is not much chat about Jet2 here, but they have just announced that flights are grounded until 17th June.

If your flight / holiday is cancelled and you want a refund, as opposed to moving the dates which you can do on the website, my advice is to call bang on 0800 when the call centre lines open. I only queued for 15 mins and the agent was happy to process a refund after a bit of soft selling of the alternatives. Funds were back on my Amex within 3 days.

Looking for a bit of advice.
I had a trip booked to Cyprus in May booked the flight with Jet2 and hotel with BA both seperate.
The flights have now been cancelled so where do I stand on the BA hotel booking? Do I have to wait for Cyprus to extend the travel ban? Or is it a case of trying insurance as I have no flight to get out there?
