The new HFP chat thread – Tuesday 31st March

We have decided to run this new daily chat thread on Head for Points.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the defacto repository for random comments and questions.  It is unlikely that the news flow will be so big over the next few weeks that we will need many ‘Bits’ articles, however.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are stuck at home self-isolating, we want the HFP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as its keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HFP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2020/03/31/the-new-hfp-chat-thread-tuesday-31st-march/comment-page-1 The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

We will continue to monitor how this is working:

we could potentially split it into a daily travel and non-travel chat thread

we may install some basic forum software

we may start suggesting potential topics for daily discussion

Let’s see how it goes.

We will do a separate article in a day or so about how we plan to run the site over the next few weeks.  Take care!

Ultra niche here, but…anyone know of any ways to use 3,000 S7 miles? https://cariverga.com/s7-priority-stayhome/

BA has just announced the suspension on all flights from Gatwick.

Anyone else getting Revolut issues this week? 3 x weeks ago I had issues with address does not match card details, 2 x days later it resolved itself.
Last successful top up Fri, tried yesterday & same issue returned?

    • guesswho2000 says:

Temperamental, I’ve resolved it every time by changing the postcode slightly (if it’s in the app as XX00XX, change to XX0 0XX, and it’s worked).

    • thehornets says:

I got it for the first time today, immediately after trying an unsuccessful large Creation topup

      • Michael says:

+1. I tried to top up Revolut to the tune of £1900 from Creation. First time unsuccessful due to supposedly incorrect post code. It went through successfully on the 2nd try but now have two pending transactions of £1900 showing on the Creation app. Worth phoning them or will the unsuccessful attempt drop off automatically? Revolut only shows one top up.

        • Genghis says:

Wait until the payment clears. There was a bug sometime last year where I was charged twice for the one top up but I’ve not experienced that since.

        • Secret Squirrel says:

          £1900?
Thought Revolut top ups were limited to £200 – £300 max a day!

  • Jimmy says:

    Good Morning,
Looking for some advise, Ive got a flight booked to Barbados end May. I had to cancel my last flight this month and take a voucher.
The flight in May was a rewards flight booked with avios. What time frame can I still cancel and still get a full refund, excluding the £35 cancellation fee?
Would I be as well canceling now, then rebooking with the voucher I took for the last flight??
    Cheers

    • roberto says:

Ba award flights can be cancelled up to 24hrs before the outbound leg with a loss of £35 pp. You will get you avios back ( eventually )..

I have a holiday to Barbados in June that I wont be taking. Might have to pay the final payment before they cancel it though which is never fun.

    • Secret Squirrel says:

      @Jimmy
Exactly same situ here. I’m waiting for it to be cancelled as I’m sure it will to receive full refund of taxes and seat reservation fees.

      • Beardysuhz says:

Same – scheduled to fly LGW to BGI on 2nd June…interested to see how things unfold and whether BA will resume flights from LGW by then.

        Here’s to wishful thinking!

  • Alberto says:

    Good Morning,

I have a flight booked outbound on Thursday which has been cancelled. The return for 16th April has not been cancelled. The airline has informed me that no refund is due as it is not the airline’s fault. What are my rights under EU261 and would this be an acceptable charge back dispute with my credit card company.
    Thank you in advance.

    • Anna says:

Which airline and between which airports? If EU261 applies you are entitled to a full cash refund, whatever the airline says.

      • Alberto says:

It is between LHR-MEX. Airline is Aeromexico.

        • Alberto says:

I just wanted to add that i am not after compensation, i just want a refund of the fare paid.

          • Anna says:

I think that EU261 applies because of the LHR departure, however I don’t know how easy it will be to get the airline to co-operate!

        • Chris K says:

Maybe write to their UK address (from google: Aeromexico, Colechurch House, 1 London Bridge Walk, London SE1 2SX) and give them X reasonable days to refund you before initiating an MCOL?

    • meta says:

I guess you can just ask them once more and then initiate a chargeback on your credit card.

    • jc says:

Yes entitled to cash refund per EU 261, because of the EU/UK departure. Regardless of reason. Reason only affects compensation (which you’ve already said you’re not claiming for & can’t claim). Chargeback / S75 if they won’t listen.

    • Nick_C says:

Regardless of EU261, its a breach of contract so you should be able to make a S75 claim on your credit card. Assuming you used a CC and paid the airline directly.

  • AJDT says:

Advice needed please – I’ve been using Virgin credit card with Curve for the last year. Does the IHG card work with Curve in all the same ways/usual places? Thanks

    • Secret Squirrel says:

Yep, read yesterday somebody got fees again for using the VA card to top up Revolut.

    • stevenhp1987 says:

MCC 6012 has a £700pw limit, max £200 per transaction.

You can double dip and pay your IHG card off with your Virgin Card directly too.
