The new HFP chat thread – Friday 27th March

We have decided to run this new daily chat thread on Head for Points.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the defacto repository for random comments and questions. It is unlikely that the news flow will be so big over the next few weeks that we will need many ‘Bits’ articles, however.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind. At this tricky time, and given that many of you are stuck at home self-isolating, we want the HFP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article. This has long-term benefits as its keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

We will review how this works after a few days:

we could potentially split it into a daily travel and non-travel chat thread

we may install some basic forum software

we may start suggesting potential topics for daily discussion

Let’s see how it goes.

We will do a separate article in a day or so about how we plan to run the site over the next few weeks. Take care!

      It was 30 days early last year. Since then it has been back to the typical 7-10 days.

    Harry – have you transferred your vIrgin stash out? I transferred my 190k out 2 days ago. Waiting for 40 pts to go across from my CC so I can transfer my final 10k. Done with a heavy heart – had saved them for a trip to Japan in the future.

      If your dates work, giving you five nights in Tokyo then burning them on Hilton could easily represent better value than burning them on flights to USA. Especially if you are Gold or Diamond.

I’ve got a return flight to Malaga booked using Avios + the standard £35 taxes. BA have just cancelled my outbound flight, but no update on the return flight yet. Can I claim a refund on both legs now or do I need to wait for the return leg to be cancelled as well first? Can this now be done online? The call centre recorded message says it’s only to be used for flights in the next 72hrs…

  Cancel online (might need to use “the trick” )and you’ll get a full refund, no need to wait for all the flights to be cancelled

I have 320,000 Virgin miles and could move them to IHG or Hilton – but I’m assuming you can’t then move them back to Virgin if they make it to the summer?

    320k VFC -> 320k IHG -> 64k VFC

Does anyone know if Meliá hotels have extended the validity of their points. The website says they are extending the tier Status of member for 12 months but I can’t see anything about any points that member have in their accounts currently.
