All British Airways American Express 2-4-1 companion vouchers extended by six months

Finally ….

With absolutely zero fanfare – in fact, with no notification of any sort – all British Airways American Express 2-4-1 companion vouchers have been extended by six months.

Here is a screenshot from my account to prove it:

241 extension

Note that my vouchers were issued in October / November 2019 and so should have expired in October / November 2021.  This is off a British Airways Premium Plus American Express so the voucher has a 2-year validity.

Instead, they now expire in April / May 2022.

For clarity, neither of these vouchers has ever been used to book a flight.  They are not vouchers which have been returned to my account following an enforced flight cancellation.

Looking at reader feedback, it seems that all vouchers have been extended.  Even ones which only triggered in the last 48 hours are showing a 30-month validity on Premium Plus cards.  What we won’t know for a few days is whether vouchers triggered AFTER today come through with 24 months or 30 months.

Hopefully you will see the same when you go into your British Airways Executive Club account.

My BA plat is to be renewed in 3 months time and I got £2k spend remain in order to trigger the 241 voucher. However under this climate I am not too sure where can i put it through now and wondering the 12 months spend of 10k could be extended or anyone in the similar situation?

  • Matthew says:

Anyone else noticed an increase in the taxes & surcharges for long haul Avios bookings? Been watching a flight in club LHR-TYO for some time now and the one-way taxes have gone from £340.50 to £389.16pp in last few days.

    • Lady London says:

Does that mean any vouchers issued to people by British Airways instead of refunds, could be worth less now as the flight prices or “taxes” are going up so much?

  • Alan says:

All well and good for those sitting with unused vouchers however two key questions it would be good if you could get an answer out of BA on:

    1) If a voucher is currently attached to a booking that then has to be cancelled due everything that is going on, will six months be added to the voucher when the booking is cancelled?

    2) Are Lloyds vouchers going to be extended by 6 months too?

    • Alan says:

Ah, I’ve now had a chance to go through comments and see #1 is indeed addressed. Would be great if #2 was too!

      • Elguiri says:

I would also like to know if Lloyds voucher gets extension, here’s hoping someone can find out.

  • Jonathan says:

RBC companion vouchers (Canada) have also been extended by 6 month.

  • Hunter says:

I’ll get my voucher back soon from cancelling trip to Miami, booked almost 12 months ago. But it would have expired in May, so a 6 month extension to November isn’t going to be a lot of use really…

  • Jill (Kinkell) says:

Thanks BA. My voucher has the 6 month extension taking it to December, 21 which is far more use to me-than a JUne date. I’m holding off triggering another 241. Would be great if it had 2 1/2 year validity when I complete the spend

  • sayling says:

I’m really not surprised there was no fanfare… if they had made a big thing about it, I suspect there would be loads of people on social media saying it’s a tight offer, should have been 12 months or finding some other way of bashing BA.

Well done, BA, and thank you.

  • Voltron says:

Hope my 100k avios will still be enough to rebook a 241 in 1 years time…
