All British Airways American Express 2-4-1 companion vouchers extended by six months

Finally ….

With absolutely zero fanfare – in fact, with no notification of any sort – all British Airways American Express 2-4-1 companion vouchers have been extended by six months.

Here is a screenshot from my account to prove it:

241 extension

Note that my vouchers were issued in October / November 2019 and so should have expired in October / November 2021.  This is off a British Airways Premium Plus American Express so the voucher has a 2-year validity.

Instead, they now expire in April / May 2022.

For clarity, neither of these vouchers has ever been used to book a flight.  They are not vouchers which have been returned to my account following an enforced flight cancellation.

Looking at reader feedback, it seems that all vouchers have been extended.  Even ones which only triggered in the last 48 hours are showing a 30-month validity on Premium Plus cards.  What we won’t know for a few days is whether vouchers triggered AFTER today come through with 24 months or 30 months.

Hopefully you will see the same when you go into your British Airways Executive Club account.

I have Club World tix for June 2020, booked with Avios and a 241 voucher. We’re hoping that we can still go so have not cancelled yet. If we do decide to cancel (closer to the time), I presume that the voucher will have the original expiration date? Does anyone happen to know/have experience of this, please?

I have received my 2-1 voucher today on my Amex card, and the email says 12 months validity. Disappointed with that given I cant realistically book anything till at least October

  • tomsurfer says:

Just to confirm I have had a 241 voucher issued today 31 March 2020, the e-mail stated 24 month validity.

However my BA Executive Club account shows an expiry date of 30 September 2022, so I have been given 30 month validity.

I have managed to get through to the BA Avios points customer services by phone. They explained that my cancelled Avios booked return flights to Japan can be rebooked with the same points used and 2-4-1 companion voucher intact for a rebooking only roughly a years time. I was worried having hastily clicked on a voucher refund by email that I’d only get the cash value of the airport taxes for when I rebooked. They were very good on the phone at being understanding in these extraordinary times.
