British Airways has announced that it is suspending all flights from London City Airport from Monday 23rd March.

The suspension is initially set to run until Saturday 4th April although you would imagine that there is a high chance of this being extended.

Passengers will be transferred onto flights from London Heathrow or London Gatwick, or can claim a refund.  As we discussed yesterday, anyone who chooses to cancel is being ‘encouraged’ to take a credit voucher rather than the cash to which they are entitled.

This is a serious blow for the staff of BA CityFlyer, which is run as a separate business inside British Airways.

The pilots and crew are only trained to operate the Embraer aircraft and will have no choice but to be grounded during this period.

Looks like BA has cancelled their Helsinki route. Had a flight for Sep cancelled and can’t see any availability even until January only codeshares with Finnair. Have they axed the route?

    • Heathrow Flyer says:

      Yes, it’s gone.

You will be moved onto an AY flight.

Surprised that this got the axe – casualty of Covid I guess and also a lost TP Run route for many FF. (Opening the floodgates for those who will bash me for even thinking about TP runs now).

  • Shoestring says:

I’m very nervous – £600 in play – can I escape the UK?

    • Heathrow Flyer says:

I’m not sure Spain is where I’d want to be heading right now… 😉

    • ChrisBCN says:

And I thought there would never be anything to worry about
