IHG opens a new Hotel Indigo in Madrid – Hotel Indigo Madrid Princesa

With unfortunate timing, given that the Foreign Office is now recommending you avoid ‘all but essential’ travel to Madrid, IHG has opened the Hotel Indigo Madrid Princesa.

This is the 3rd Hotel Indigo in Madrid, situated next to Parque del Oeste. To quote:

“The hotel has 101 guest rooms featuring two distinct room designs based around nature and taking cues from the lush greenery of Parque del Oeste. With a neutral undertone, the room styles and colours are inspired by the seasons with gold and red for Autumn and green and blue for spring. The headboards are made of sack cloth with leather strapping harking back to park traders of old. Each room boasts premium bedding, a smart TV and high-speed internet.”

The public spaces throughout Hotel Indigo Madrid Princesa reflect the stylish relaxed contemporary style of the Spanish capital with an industrial exposed ceiling aesthetic and the use of raw metals, and exposed brick. In contrast to the industrial design notes, there are accents of vibrant colours and textures with handmade tiles, touches of brass, velvet furnishings and bright orange extract pipes – bringing to life the Spanish flair.

Within the bustling city lies an oasis of manicured lawns of the beautiful Parque del Oeste and the expansive, rugged Casa de Campo park. Dating back to the early 20th-century, the park offers both locals and travellers everything one could hope for from a city park. From their famous rose garden with rose varieties from around the world, all the way to the unexpected ancient Egyptian temple in the southern end – The Temple of Debod. The temple was shipped to Europe in pieces as a novel gift to Spain, which had sent its top archaeologists to Egypt to help save temples threatened by the construction of the Aswan Dam in the 1960s.”

  Does anyone have any experience of how refunds are treated for these bonus points? On the PRGC which I am a supp for, we are now expecting a refund for flights which the airline cancelled earlier today. There was already quite a high threshold for spending to get the points, and from recent comments I don’t want to push Mony too much!

    Unfortunately the bonus points get clawed back so ideally you want to move any balance out before that happens. You can avoid this by cancelling the card before the refund hits but cancelling is not always desirable. Otherwise you will just be running a negative MR balance, but it would probably reflect badly on your internal amex file if you subsequently cancelled the card with a high negative balance on it. Best to jeep spending on it until it returns to zero before cancelling.

      Thanks BJ. Not yet managed to hit the threshold for these extra bonus points (the March spend x get y points one) and the flights weren’t too expensive (just over £400 in total) but it does make hitting the spend threshold for the bonus points even more difficult and will probably just give up on trying to hit it. I guess I will just make sure I hit the far easier threshold on my plat card, only £100 still to go!

        I know the feeling, my partner and I both have potential (lucky) amex bonuses at stake but with all the goings on at the moment there is little to spend money on. Council tax will cover one but not both. If we use Moneze on tbe othef it will probably cost us one of our accounts.

O/T: Some countries – at least Spain and Israel, and maybe others – seem to be ordering all hotels to close. Any idea what happens to people staying in the hotel?

  Given the measures others are taking it will be interesting to see how long the government can sustain the current UK approach. I hope one day we will also know what other strategies the government was presented with and whether the one they have adopted was the one most highly recommended by their scientific and medical advisors or not.

    Personally I think Boris Johnson (or rather, is advisers) are being the realists here.
    
    The problem with these “lockdown” measures is that they will potentially need to be maintained until an effective vaccine is found – which could be years. No one has any strategy as to how to end the lockdowns without sliding back into the abyss.

      There won’t be a COVID-19 vaccine, OMS hopes to minimise spread and hopefully eradicate the disease. It’s possible. Asian countries have WAY MORE experience than European ones with novel and emergent diseases, such as COVID1, and they are way ahead of us reducing the spread to single digit new cases.

    After the event it doesn’t really matter what other choices the government may or may not have had. What matters is that we get through this. I hope the impact is not the worst case and I wish everyone well.
    
    It’s weird Johnson is vilified because he ignored the experts on Brexit and now he’s vilified even though he is listening to the Chief Medical Officer and the Chief Scientific Adviser.
    
    Some people can’t accept that we have the government we have. We had a chance to vote last December and the results are what they are. That’s the consequences of out FPTP electoral system. It last worked in Labour’s favour in 1997. It hasn’t since.

Been trying to find the link for Theatre tokens on the virgin Atlantic Flying Club website, not sure if it has been removed, anyone got a link?
Good time to diversify some of my many Virgin miles, as it does not look as though I am going to be flying anywhere soon!

      Hello, yes, I am happy with theatre tokens, but can’t find them listed anywhere on the virgin flying club website.
      It seems all redemotions (even Hilton) you have to call for, nothing can be done online, but you can’t call virgin flying club at the moment, 3 plus hours on phone…
