Coronavirus: Singapore blocking TRANSIT and stays (UK exempt for now), Malta ban, Croatia ban

Here is a quick lunchtime update of the latest countries to put blocks in place due to coronavirus.

Coronavirus and Singapore:

This does not currently cover the UK.

However, if you have a trip to Singapore planned, or a trip which TRANSITS in Singapore, you need to be on your guard. It would be very surprising if the ban was not extended to the UK within a few days.

As of midnight on Sunday (ie Monday) you will not be allowed entry into Singapore – or to transit through Singapore – if you have visited Italy, France, Spain or Germany in the past 14 days.

There are already restrictions in place if you have visited China, Iran or South Korea.

Coronavirus and Singapore

Coronavirus and Malta:

Malta is extending its quarantine rules to ALL incoming passengers. UK travellers were previously exempt.

You and your entire immediate family MUST spend 14 days in quarantine upon arrival.

It is not clear if this is in place immediately or if it will only begin tonight or perhaps tomorrow.

Coronavirus and Croatia:

This block DOES apply to UK travellers.

The Croatian Government is now imposing a 14 day quarantine period on all arrivals from the UK as well as France, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Austria, Netherlands, China, the Republic of Korea, Japan and Singapore. Other ‘hot spot’ countries were already blocked.

Coronavirus and Croatia Dubrovnik

Coronavirus and Argentina:

This block DOES apply to UK travellers.

Argentina has announced plans to suspend flights from Europe, and many other parts of the world, for 30 days.

The start date is not clear but the Foreign Office believes it will take effect from Monday 16th.

Note that Peru has put quarantine measures in place for arrivals, including transit passengers, from some countries although not, at present, the UK. See the Foreign Office guidance here.

I will be transiting through Singapore with Qantas on my way back to the UK on March 16th. If Singapore starts blocking people who’ve been in the UK in the last 14 days, then I will be unable to transit. Would Qantas be obliged to route me via Perth or another carrier instead? Before anyone tells me to ask Qantas, I’ve messaged them through their app, Facebook and Twitter, and I’ve spent over six hours on hold to them in the last 24 hours – they cannot be contacted!

  unfortunately I don’t think so – your contract with them is for your paid flight & destination, if you’re denied boarding, that’s not their problem.

I am currently in Denmark due to fly back tomorrow on the last flight out. Will BA still be flying? How much notice will BA give me if they cancel?

Oh oh. We fly back from Sydney to the UK on BA metal on Thursday, will be on our guard and watching this very carefully!

The official US Covid-19 advice includes all the usual stuff about washing hands, sneezing into a tissue etc – then ends by saying ‘make sure you thoroughly cook raw food especially chicken’! 🙂

I am in Thailand already, as I’m already in the country hopefully don’t have an issue with an internal flight to Koh Sumui in a few days, and I’ll worry about my flight back to Europe when I have to. Interesting that here there are temperature checks coming into the country and at shopping malls. Alcohol gel is also everywhere – entrance to shops, restaurant stations etc and most people wear masks, which are compulsory on public transport. Situation and numbers here suggest it’s under control unlike in Europe.

Just a note – other SA countries taking same like as Argentina including Peru. They have stopped all flights from Monday.

Last flights are on Monday. One person I know has had a later flight with Norwegian rearranged to Monday, which supports that view. The government decree itself doesn’t appear to give the dates so I guess there is still a bit of uncertainty.
