Finnair adds a 7th daily London Heathrow flight to Helsinki

On 2nd January, Finnair announced that it was adding a 6th daily weekday service from London Heathrow to Helsinki.

It also announced plans to turn a second daily service into a long-haul flight, meaning that Business Class passengers would get a flat bed seat for the journey.

This does not seem to be enough to meet demand, however.  London Air Travel reports that Finnair has taken over one of Etihad’s slots at Heathrow.  Etihad has not used this slot in recent years, leasing it first to the now-bankrupt Jet Airways of India and then to Air Serbia for a season.

The extra flight is already showing in the Finnair timetable although, oddly, ba.com does not yet show it.  The Finnair weekday departure schedule from Heathrow is now, based on Monday 6th April:

  • 07.30 (arr 12.20) – A320
  • 10.20 (arr 15.15) – A350-900 with flat beds
  • 13.50 (arr 18.45) – A320
  • 16.10 (arr 21.00) – A321
  • 18.10 (arr 23.00) – A330-300 with flat beds
  • 19.35 (arr 00.30) – A321
  • 20.30 (arr 01.20) – A319

Remember that Finnair is a member of oneworld and you can book their flights with Avios.  You can also earn Avios and British Airways Executive Club tier points when you fly with them.

For completeness, I should add that there is also one daily British Airways service, departing at 08.25.
