If you’re looking for something different for a weekend break this Spring, British Airways Holidays is offering free helicopter transfers if you book a break in Monaco.

If you’ve never been on a helicopter, it is a very cool thing to do.

I think I’ve only been in a helicopter three times, and one of those times was to transfer from Nice Airport to Monaco.  (This was a corporate jolly, I wasn’t spending my own money.)  It isn’t a long flight at just 7 minutes, but skimming along the sea with the French coast off to your side makes it a very impressive one.

British Airways has teamed up with the Monaco Government Tourist & Convention Authority to offer free return helicopter transfers with a ‘flight and hotel’ booking of just three nights.

British Airways free Monaco helicopter transfer

This offer is, unsurprisingly, only valid during the low season.  The smart thing may be to book as near to the end (or, in Autumn, the start) of the offer as possible to guarantee the best weather.

The dates are:

Now to 31st March

1st October to 31st December (exc Christmas Day)

You need to book seven days in advance.  All bookings must be made by 31st January.

There is small print re the operating hours of the helicopter which you can easily miss as it is only available during the booking process:

“to qualify for the free helicopter transfer, flights must arrive into Nice between 08:00 and 16:45, and depart from Nice between 10:00 and 16:45, flights outside of these times will not receive the free helicopter transfer”

There is also a 23kg luggage limit per person.

You also receive “entrance to museums and attractions in the principality of Monaco”.  Whilst it isn’t mentioned on the main page, you also get “shared shuttle bus transfer from/to the Heliport and your chosen hotel”.

This is a really good deal in March.  I found three nights at Columbus Monte Carlo plus BA economy flights plus helicopter transfers for just £532 for two people (ie £266 each) for the last weekend in March.

Remember that the usual BA Holidays benefits apply.  You earn 1 bonus Avios for every £1 you spend, and if you pay on a British Airways Premium Plus American Express card you will receive double Avios (3 per £1) from Amex.  If your booking is large enough, you can just pay a deposit now with the balance due seven weeks before departure.

Your flights will earn Avios and tier points, but BA Holidays bookings do not qualify for On Business points in the BA small business scheme.

Im finding holidays where I arrive into and out of Nice outside the times specified in the terms and conditions, but the BA holidays website is still including red text to say that “return helicopter transfer included”. Anyone reckon I would still get my helicopter transfer?

I should note that I’m looking at holidays starting in Newcastle and connecting in LHR.

Did this a few years ago in March and stayed in port palace hotel.
Thought it was an incredible weekend away, made full use of the vouchers and eating and drinking out wasn’t any more than back in the UK.

Hotel receptionist thought we were bonkers when we asked for the nearest sea access for swimming. It was a bit chilly when we got in to be fair to her.

They don’t understand that anything over 18 degrees C is beach weather for us Brits!

Great offer, thanks for highlighting it Rob. Just booked a weekend in early November, £237 each!

  • Andy S says:

I did this a few years back. Stayed at the Me Mardian in Monaco, reciced a free room upgrade and breakfast as part of the deal.

The Helicopter transfers were a brilliant expensive flying into the centre of Monaco.

  • Brighton Belle says:

My place in the sun looks out at the helicopters passing Cap Ferrat and the Moyen Corniche for the buses.
Over 30 years of watching the helicopter is top but the bus ride isn’t that bad either for just a few Euros. …take it all the way to Menton too for some great scenery. Trains to San Remo are easy with a change at the border. All the ticket machines are multilingual and love your Curve or Clarity card.

Monaco isn’t expensive providing you don’t behave like a posing high roller. My beers regularly cost €3

Don’t test the weather from November to the end January as it is mostly like Brighton. End February is when the Cote wakes up for the mimosa blossom.

    • Darren says:

So, I’d guess that the middle of October weather is a gamble?

      • Brighton Belle says:

It’s pretty dependable until the end of September and then October is iffy. But the Aquarium in Monaco is a good day and some excellent galleries in Nice, train or bus there is quick and cheap. I prefer the bus because the coast road has fab sea vistas.

  • Russ says:

Just tried to book but the price went up by £173 after changing the arriving/departing flights within the helicopter transfer times.

  • Bill Carson says:

Just booked a holiday for Oct.

Rob, It might be worth noting that the T&Cs state:

“In order for us to provide the helicopter transfer, the Monaco authorities require us to obtain each customer’s date of birth and city of birth. Please email this information to bahonline@holidays.ba.com within 10 days from booking confirmation for this offer to be valid.”

I’ve no idea if that’s going to be enforced, but I assume the offer might not actually be valid if you don’t. At least it’s also a good idea to ensure they have the right address for you as it says BA Holidays will post(!) you the coupons required.

    • Jody says:

I got a very prompt reply when I emailed earlier, literally within an hour.
