Save up to 30% in IHG’s New Year hotel flash sale for Europe

If you need to lock in any IHG hotels for stays before the10th May, you should take a look at the brand new IHG Flash Sale.

The headline discount is up to 30% off the Best Available Rate. This is available exclusively to IHG Rewards Club members, so it’s a good time to sign up to the programme if you are one of the six HfP readers who has not already done. Non-members receive a smaller discount of 25%.

These Flash Sale offers are available at hotels across the IHG portfolio, including Kimpton, InterContinental, Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn.

There isn’t much small print to worry about:

It is available for stays until 10th May 2020
You must book by 13th January 2020 (so it’s not really a Flash Sale!)
Bookings are non-refundable and require pre-payment at time of booking
Only European hotels are included

You should note that the discount is not a full 30%, because it is based on the Best Flexible Rate. As these sale rates are non-refundable, a fairer comparison is with the usual Advance Purchase rate – but you should still see a good additional saving.

IHG is still running a 4x Bonus Points promotion that we wrote about a few weeks ago, which could earn you up to quadruple IHG Rewards Club points on a stay before 31st January 2020 (you do need to register for this offer here).

We don’t know what will replace the current Accelerate promotion, which is due to end tonight. There will clearly be some sort of gap, as there is no offer lined up and ready to go for 1st January.

In case people missed it, IHG has finally moved away from the 4 character PIN for account password. If you haven’t already I would suggest changing your passwords.

  Logged in with pin yesterday, did you get an email telling you to change to a new password? Got an excellent rate for 3 nights in a couple of weeks at London City CP under this sale for myself, husband and 18 YO daughter in a 2 bed room with no charge for 3rd adult in room – when I checked 2 weeks ago it was going to cost me another £50 or so per night for a 3rd adult!

Hi Don’t know if I missed an article on it here but seems there’s no ambassador renewal for $150 anymore, I was offered renew for 40,000 points or $200 and earn 15,000 points (took the latter)

  They’re valuing 25,000 points at USD200 here. Often 25,000 isn’t even worth half that in terms of the hotel those 25k would buy you.

    You are giving up 40k points ilo of $200 with a rebate of 15k points and 10% back on all redemptions for the year.
    
    If you value each point at $0.005 then it’s $200 in points vs $125 less you 10% back on points redemptions ($200 cash with an instant $75 rebate)

OT (but IHG-related) – should stays booked using an Ambassador free-night certificate be qualifying or non-qualifying? I’m sure I always received points in the past (for the “paid” night) but I’ve just had a stay posted and it’s come up as totally non-qualifying – so no nights or points have been credited. (Just thought I’d ask here in case anyone knows before I try to get any sense from the IHG helpdesk…!)

  Surely it is where you want to go? For example, an interesting city break might mean that the Voco Oxford, Hotel Indigo Stratford, Hotel Indigo York etc is better use rather than a more expensive hotel in a big city you are not bothered about going to?
