Happy Christmas to you and your family. I hope you enjoy a well deserved break, wherever in the world you are.

Do please post below if your travels have taken you anywhere exciting this Christmas.  I am in London, Rhys is in Canterbury, Sinead is in New York and Anika is spending Christmas in the US with her 6-week old daughter.

There is still some new content today, as we kick off a series of 12 articles covering the winners of the first Head for Points Travel & Loyalty Awards.  There will be another winner announced on Boxing Day, before full coverage returns as usual on the 27th.

If you want something to read in the meantime, take a look at our ‘Avios Redemption University‘ series and all of our flight, UK lounge and credit card reviews.

Thank you for your support over the past year.

Merry Christmas from Swansea – we’re with the not-in-laws (over 10 years together and he still hasn’t put a ring on it…), OHs mum is cooking up a magnificent feast and I will be returning to London at least a stone heavier!
I will just have to plan more hiking in the New Year…

    • Shoestring says:

why don’t you force the issue?

he could die tomorrow in a car accident, you would & should be entitled to his wealth after 10 years, if you don’t get him to do it officially, you get nothing

      • Cat says:

I’m an old romantic Harry, I want it to come from him, rather than me nagging him into it.

        • Crafty says:

Harry’s an old romantic too. Can’t you tell from his remark?

          • Shoestring says:

he wouldn’t be with you you after 10 years unless he loved you – he’s just sort of useless in the marrying stakes

honest, make him marry you or (sorry to say this) he’ll die overnight from something or other & the inheritance rights you deserve will just disappear in a flash

          • Shoestring says:

you are right, Crafty – who amongst us would not wish Cat well with her runs on the big hills for charity?

she can’t drive a car but she got our heart

I can’t understand why that stupid fecker don’t give her a ring

          • Cat says:

            😂🤣

          • Cat says:

“… he’s just sort of useless in the marrying stakes” that much I’d worked out for myself!

            I’ll work on it!

        • Graham Walsh says:

          It’s a leap year in 2020, so it’s your chance on the 29th 🙂

        • Lady London says:

Unlike @Shoestring, I was going to wait until I saw you at the next party to say the same thing.

Why not have a quiet word with one of the not-in-laws while you’re there and ask what they think? Will give you a good hint as to the lie of the land as they’ve known him a lot longer than you have. Then you can plan whether to bring it uo directly or indirectly but bring it up you must. Otherwise seek another opportunity.

@Shoestring’s being practical but I’m thinking more of the feeling side of things and your prospects.

Bear in mind Shoestring that the boot might end up on the other foot also from a material p.o.v. so it sounds like more clarity is needed. We can all be with a number of different people the work starts after you get together to make it work, not before.

          • Cat says:

Oh no, we all gave up on quiet words years ago – we now openly jibe him about the lack of a ring (Friend of a friend we’ve just met: “So why aren’t you married after all these years”, Me: “Hang on a minute.” (calls through to the other room) “DARLING, a questions for you…”), the not-in-laws make more jokes at his expense about it than I do. I’ve even been known to pull a few of Beyonce’s Single Ladies dance moves after a few drinks. His Indian grandma has now given up on him ever proposing, and has given me solid gold wedding bangles (I believe this has something to do with the health and prosperity of my OH) that apparently she has had, waiting to give them to me, for ages.

I’ve lived with him for 8 of those 10.5 years. He knows me better than anyone. We’ve been through everything together – I can’t imagine, nor do I want to, being with anyone else! We are very committed – we (part) own our flat together, he’s just, as Harry said, sort of useless in the marrying stakes!

          • Lady London says:

Will you be happy in 10-15 years if your other half is gone and you haven’t gone so far as marrying? Would he? Even these days there is a difference between living together and marrying. (And it can be a negative difference.)

            NOMB I’ll shut up now.

          • Shoestring says:

yep sorry if I was/ am a bit blunt! 🙂

(just spent a long-winded/ bureaucratic 9 months sorting out a big chunk of my finances so that my wife & kids don’t lose out if I get carried off – good news is: the end is hopefully in sight)

          • Cat says:

Ultimately, I’d rather have him than the ring, if it came down to a choice between the two. Obviously, I’d rather have both. Maybe one day that will happen.
“The end is hopefully in sight” – of the sorting out of finances I hope? Just a reminder to watch out for those cats, Harry!

Happy Christmas. It was about this time last year that I got into this game. In that time across flying, hotel stays and credit card spend & sign-ups I’ve probably earned around half a million various points and hit BA silver for the first time. Could not have done it without this website and all its readers. I’m ever grateful and hope I may be able to give back in due course.

Merry Xmas from cold but sunny Lancashire! This year saw our first two F flights (one by design, one by accident) and now counting down to our 3rd (again due to sheer luck more than anything) at Easter!

Best wishes to HFP and who read and contribute 🎄🎉🎁🥂

Merry Christmas to Rob and the HFP team and community, learnt a lot from this community, enjoying the cold and sunny weather in the UK.

Merry Christmas to everyone at HfP from sunny Kep in Cambodia!

Just want to thank everyone here for all of their invaluable advice. I’m 9 months into a 12 month trip and have really benefited from everything I’ve read here. Flights to South America thanks to the Iberia 90,000 deal last year and an ex-EU Qatar flight to Asia including QSuites. Lounge access galore and lots of avois and tier points thanks to many Latam flights in South America.

Parents got a BA business class deal from Amsterdam to Bangkok to join me for Christmas which saved thousands and sister benefited from a £200 off £600 Amex deal for her flights.

It’s safe to say we’ve all done incredibly well from HfP and looking forward to more to come!
