Heading to Singapore? Check out the brand new Qantas First Class lounge

If you find yourself in Singapore’s Changi Airport with a few hours to kill and happen to be in possession of oneworld Emerald status, a British Airways Executive Club Gold card or are travelling in First Class on a oneworld airline, you should check out the new Qantas First Class lounge.

It occupies a brand new site in the airport and opened on Monday. Photos and early feedback appear to be excellent.

It is located near the D gates in Terminal 1, which is the opposite end to the C gates where the existing Qantas business class lounge is. It takes around 10 minutes to walk from one to the other.

The new Qantas First Class Lounge has seating for up to 240 passengers, which is a significant boost to capacity. This should mean an end to the overcrowding at the business class lounge, so you may benefit from this new lounge even if you can’t use it yourself. It is open between 14:30 and midnight daily.

It is designed by David Caon and Akin Ateliertas and looks very, very stylish:

…. with lots of polished brass, marble, leather and wood to give it a very warm feeling. There is a large dining room with an impressive a la carte menu:

The lounge features a range of zones and seating choices, from more office-style desks to casual armchairs and sofas:

If you are passing through Singapore soon the new Qantas First Class lounge definitely looks like it is worth trying out.

Just to clarify, it’s not enough to simply have BA Gold / oneworld Emerald status is it? I’m guessing you need to be flying on a oneworld airline flight also?

  Imagine if they had to grant access to boards of domestic and short haul passengers on £29 fares, Qantas wouldn’t have built this to quite the same standard. QF doesn’t have this problem at its home airport(s) either where the domestic passengers are excluded by means of emigration passport control.
  
  BA does have this problem at T5. Although that doesn’t excuse the state of the Concorde Room which is the ‘real’ First class lounge, it does explain its different labelling and entry rules.

    Staying in Asia, Malaysian at KLIA have 3 different business class lounges and access is (supposed to be) based on destination; Domestic, Regional (intra Asia) and International Business class lounges. The international lounge is in the satellite terminal, the other lounges in the main terminal. With a bit of thought BA could do something similar at T5.

    Part of Qantas’ Strategy is to turn the first Lounge into a profit Centre by attracting passengers from other Oneworld airlines.
    Qantas can do this at Changi because most of the terminals are interconnected, but BA cannot at Heathrow T5 as most of their partners are not operating from T5.

Hmm, I was wondering why the normal Qantas lounge was so empty on Wednesday night. I went to the wrong lounge! I really don’t know why anyone uses the BA lounge in SG when the Qantas lounge is much better and just 20m down the Hall, and they take BA silvers.

It’s only a 5 min walk from one end to the other end of T1 at Changi.

The best place to eat in this airport without doubt is the secret hawker center in the basement. Follow the signs to staff canteen.

Of course I’m in the minority, I’d rather pay a few dollars for a meal I want to eat then stuff my face on free food…
