News in brief:

Good Avios-earning Finnair deals to Asia

Finnair has launched a Black Friday sale to Asia.

What makes this sale attractive is that:

you can start from London, Manchester and Edinburgh

Finnair flights earn Avios and British Airways tier points – and because you are changing planes in Helsinki, you earn 80 tier points each way for the connection in Business Class PLUS the tier points for the long-haul leg

Finnair is flying brand a new A350 aircraft on many routes with excellent business class seats

Compared to the Club World seat the 1-2-1 configuration is a major improvement. You can read my review of the new Finnair A350 business class seat here.

Click here to see the prices out of London, Edinburgh and Manchester in both business and economy class.  Highlights, in Business Class, include:

  • Beijing £1,445
  • Shanghai £1,495
  • Hong Kong £1,666
  • Xi’an £1,298
  • Krabi £1,649

Finnair Black Friday deals

Save on flight and ‘flight and hotel’ bookings with Opodo

Black Friday seems to have morphed into Black Week for 2019.  This is good news for us, as we can drip out the best deals over the week rather than having to ram them into Friday.

Next up is Opodo which is running two discount codes this week which might get you a decent saving.

The code is BLACKWEEK19.  You enter this right at the very end of the process – there is a box under the space for your credit card number saying “Add a promo code”.

It is worth:

  • £20 off flight bookings over £400
  • £75 off flight + hotel bookings over £940

You need to book by Thursday 28th November, which implies there may be a revised version on Black Friday itself.  Flights must depart from the UK.  The Opodo Black Friday site is here.

Other Black Friday deals …..

A lot of other Black Friday offers have dropped in this week.  There is a lot more out there but these companies contacted me directly.

Back to travel. All of these deals are bookable now – you don’t need to wait until Friday.

Most are not worth discussing in detail but I will run through a few quickly:

Uber credit – Tesco is discounting various restaurant gift cards by 20% until 1st December.  Uber Eats (£15 only) is included as part of the selection.  However, as Uber and Uber Eats share the same credit pot, buying these gift vouchers in Tesco also gets you 20% off Uber rides.

Europcar – save up to 40% on worldwide rentals, book by 2nd December for pick-ups before 31st March 2020 – book here

Radisson / Park Inn / Park Plaza hotels – save up to 30% and earn 3,000 bonus Radisson Rewards points per stay, valid for weekend stays in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, the United States, Canada, Latin America, and the Caribbean for all of 2020 – book by 3rd December via this link

Virgin Atlantic ‘flight and hotel’ packages – save £100 on all Caribbean (Barbados, Antigua, St Lucia, Cuba, Mexico, Jamaica, Tobago, Grenada) packages using promo code BF2019, must travel by 31st October 2020, no minimum spend – book by 2nd December via this link

Virgin Atlantic ‘flight only’ – save up to £50 on flights to Asia, including India, and 20% off flights to the Caribbean – book by 2nd December via this link (Virgin Atlantic is adding new deals daily so it is worth checking their site regardless)

Airportr at Manchester Airport – save 25% with code BLACKFRIDAY19 on Airportr’s ‘we collect your bags from your home or office and check them in’ service at Manchester – details here

Priority Pass – save 15% to 40% on a lounge pass (discount varies by product) – details here

Millennium Hotels – save up to 35% (25% for non-members of My Millennium) at 23 hotels across Europe, book by 3rd December for stays until 29th February – book via the special page here using code LOVEFRIDAY

Hotels.com – save 11% on selected hotels (usually non-chain hotels) with code BLACKFRI, book by 2nd December for stays by 31st March, code may invalidate collection of Hotels.com Rewards credit (or may not, they wouldn’t say) – book here

    Yes, normally takes 3-4 days.

  • Andrew says:

    Just 10%?

    It’s Black Friday WOW week!

So that’s 10% on LBG, stacked with 10% on InStore and 10p discount per litre when you spend £60 (non GC)

So my £60 regular grocery spend got me. £12 back + £5.00 discount on fuel.

Between 20-28% depending on how you count it.

    • Harry T says:

      What’s InStore and LBG?

        Uhm… Maybe.
RBS & NatWest staff have access to InStore via their Perks at Work scheme operated by NextJump.
They get funds back when they use any registered card at tills at Morrison’s, National Express, Waitrose and others and is paid in addition to the various LBG, RBS, Amex offers.
It’s identical to the Virgin Atlantic InStore points scheme for Waitrose etc (Morrison’s has dropped off that one sadly)]
        LBG – Lloyds Banking Group

  • Shoestring says:

The £100 deal at Premiair Lounge Manchester Airport is down to a bargain £75 with BLACKFRIDAY

*offer ends midnight* – so book ahead today if you hate the Manchester Airpoirt experience enough to pay the £75 https://premiair.manchesterairport.co.uk/premium/dates/

    • The Savage Squirrel says:

It’ll never happen, but I really wish they’d link this to Jet2 and Ryanair for those positioning flights. Although I can see they may not want to risk a stag do or two intent on drinking £100 of alcohol per head to get their money’s worth :D.

  • Russ says:

Apparently Premier Inn are releasing a sale Friday. May be worth it for those whose partners think they spend more time at airport hotels than home 🙂

  • AJA says:

O/T 1,000 Avios for spending £100 with British Airways offer on BAPP from last week just posted to my Amex account. 🙂

  • AndyGWP says:

Thanks for the Melia mention yesterday in commens (up to 50% Black Friday sale). Will be doing my first ever Melia stay now.

Importantly, as Melia Gold (and possibly by other routes?) after you have done the search and chosen your hotel, you can apply a 20% voucher code at the payment page, and it still works (it doesn’t work when you put it in on the search screen, either faulty, or it has been deliberately set to not accept it)

You can get the 3 x 20% discount codes by being Melia Gold, which you get by having the Amex Platinum

    • Rich says:

Wow. Didn’t know that. So you can get the Black Friday price and take 20 off that?

      • AndyGWP says:

        Bingo 🙂

        • David D says:

Yes, use the app then you get a further 5% off the price too. Furthermore, if you call the Melia Rewards booking service with that price and have seen it elsewhere for less then they will beat that price too. The 20% off voucher codes always work on the app.

          • Bill says:

Where do I get the Amelia 20% code ? I have amex platinum

          • Cat says:

Then apply a birthday upgrade voucher when you check-in online…

          • AndyGWP says:

Cheers Cat – that was my plan too

Cheers David – didn’t know that re: mobile app

FAO: Bill – you get Gold status with Amex Plat. The vouchers come with gold status

          • AndyGWP says:

(Bill – log into your Melia account to find the vouchers)

  • Harry T says:

    Beat me to it!

    • Shoestring says:

somebody get the £50 Amazon card for me 🙂

      • Harry T says:

Partner and I both getting one 😊. Even better than Morrison’s

        • pablo says:

Same here. Can be split between several retailers and doesn’t need to be redeemed immediately. Still 89 days left to make a decision.

  • Paul says:

So looking for West Coast USA for June next year, and Virgin have their ‘BF’ fares ~£1550 for SEA and SFO, just thought I’d check google before booking, and lo and behold BA are doing exactly the same fares… no fanfare as such so presumably just a marketing fare match, nice though. Just have to decide who to go for now…
