Lufthansa has announced the return of direct flights between Bristol Airport and Frankfurt.
Flybmi used to serve this route until it went bankrupt, and Lufthansa itself used to fly it a decade or so ago.
Lufthansa is not pushing the boat out too far. It will be using an Embraer 190 – the same aircraft type that British Airways uses out of London City Airport – and services will not start until March in order to pick up some tourist traffic as well as business travel.
There will be two flights per day in each direction, at the start and end of the working day.
Andreas Koester, Lufthansa Group Senior Director of Sales in the UK, Ireland and Iceland:
“We are thrilled to announce the launch of the service from Bristol to one of our major hubs in Germany, for summer 2020. The route will not only connect leisure travellers to the cultural city of Frankfurt, plus facilitate ease of onward travel, it will also attract additional business travellers to Germany’s financial centre. With the UK being such a vital market for us, we recognise the importance of reinforcing our commitment in this region and are delighted to be able to do so.”
The route is due to start in the Spring and will operate twice-daily from 30th March 2020 using an Embraer E190 Regional Jet.
