        Do you mean you’re not convinced that Monese actually awarded the 1M Avios promised to someone who used the HFP code? This always did seem a very generous prize – £60k total value or thereabouts for the 6 prizes.

          They were contractually obliged to buy 10m Avios by the end of the year – that’s why they did the competition 🙂

          They will have notified the winner, I’m not too concerned. There is a post on Flyertalk from one of the six winners, but not ours I think. There is a WhatsApp group my mate Caroline is on where one of the participants also won – she asked this person and he says he didn’t get it via HFP though. None of the other sites who promoted this appear to know the name of their winner either.

        Aren’t there regulations governing competitions, particularly any lottery-type competitions, that say the winner’s name must be published by the organizers and/or provided by the competition organiser to anyone that requests it? I am sure something like this is required in law.

        If the finance app owner is not providing each winner’s name as above, i.e. in accordance with the law, then I wouldn’t trust them with my money.

  OT – we’re in the midlands for the Dive Show at the NEC, Birmingham hotel prices were silly so I booked the Leicester Hilton for £68 in the HH sale and it’s much nicer than some of the Tripadvisor reviews would suggest. As gold we’ve been upgraded to a deluxe room with wine, nibbles, robes & slippers, the leisure club is perfectly pleasant (with a properly hot hot tub), the TV is colossal and the staff extremely attentive. If breakfast doesn’t disappoint then this will be one of the best bargains we’ve ever had, especially given that it’s also half term!

  OT Advice need from fellow HfPers about EC261 for unlucky delay tonight. We are flying DSA-BUD with Wizz tonight, just got delay notification for more than 3 hours. However, it will fall into 2-3 hours due to Daylight saving time end. Arriving time will be 4:30 GMT instead 1:55 BST. Anyone have same experience for claiming compensation or no chance.

    I would definitely make a claim and would insert text about over 3 hours delay from originally scheduled landing time taking into account thé daylight saving clocks change.

    Note that regardless of any cabin announcements about ‘we have now landes and welcome to….’ for purposes of eu261 your flight is not officially landes until it’s parked AND the exit door from thé aircraft is OPEN AND thé stairs or airbridge from thé aircraft are connecter AND available to use. Check that moment on your watch/phone.

    Also take care to note every reason given for thé delay, who gave it and when. If it’s weather check if other planes flying simular routes are still taking off near enough to on time. In particular, if thé incoming aircraft for your flight is delayed, even by weather, this is not a valud reason to deny your claim. The weather has to affect your flight directly to exempt you from compensation.

    Dont forget also after 2 hours delay for any reason even one that you would not get compensation for, you are entitled to duty of care under eu261 including meals and drinks according to time of day, hôtel if overnight, transport to and from hotel, comms expenses eg internet/wifi, to advise people you are late. Give the airline a chance to provide but if thé airline doesnt or if queues are unreasonable etc, book and pay for thèse things and claim back.

    Arrival times are local times. Delay for EC261 purposes are calculated based on local arrival time.

  OT:
  I’ve maxed out the 90,000 Referral Points on my Platinum for this calendar year. I’ve just applied for a Gold Card.

  Does the Gold Card have a separate 90,000 Referral Points cap for this year, or would this cap be shared with the Platinum as it would be one MR account? Wondering whether I’d get any points if refer a couple of friends from my Gold Card.
