The Aerotel hotel is open in Heathrow Terminal 3 – 18 months late

Back in April 2018 (2018, not 2019), Anika had agreed to try out the new Aerotel London Heathrow hotel in London Heathrow Terminal 3. Bookings had been taken for some time and the opening date was near.
The opening was suddenly postponed, even though the signs were already up in Terminal 3. This is not unusual with new hotels and I didn’t think too much of it.
And then …. nothing. There has been radio silence for the last 18 months. The hotel was even removed from the Aerotel website.
Suddenly, with no fanfare at all, Aerotel London Heathrow is open. Even now, we have not been officially notified but it is bookable.
You can find out more on this page of the Aerotel website.
Aerotel is owned by Plaza Premium, which runs a number of excellent airport lounges at Heathrow. The Terminal 2 lounge – reviewed here – is often voted the best independent airport lounge in the world, and the lounges in Terminal 5 (airside), Terminal 4 (airside and landside) and Terminal 2 (landside) are also very good. The only odd one is the Terminal 3 arrivals lounge, which is the old Delta facility and is in need of an upgrade.
This is not the first Aerotel hotel. They are also available in Abu Dhabi, Beijing, Cebu, Guangzhou, Kuala Lumpur, Muscat, Rio and Singapore – full details are on their site.
Aerotel London Heathrow is not your normal airport hotel:
Firstly, the rooms are small:
A ‘Solo Plus’ room is 10 square metres (which amazingly includes an en-suite bathroom) and contains a single bed
A ‘Double Plus’ room is 14 square metres and contains a double bed
There are also ‘Family Rooms’, looking at the website, but I couldn’t get one to appear for booking.
Secondly, it charges by the hour. The minimum stay is six hours and the maximum stay is 24 hours.
Thirdly, it is literally in the airport. It isn’t attached to Terminal 3 – it is IN Terminal 3, in the Arrivals hall. You don’t need to walk out of the door. It makes my five minute walk to the Premier Inn in Terminal 4 the other week look like hard work!
Aerotel London Heathrow has a ‘library lounge’, which also serves food, so you have somewhere to go if you don’t want to spend all of your time in your miniature room!
At 3pm yesterday, it wanted $99 for a six hour stay in a single room and $123 for a six hour stay in a double room (the website defaults to $ pricing).
Here is a solo room:
…. and a double room:
…. and the ‘library lounge’:
