New ‘Emyr’ benefits at Conrad, Waldorf Astoria and LXR hotels

We ran an article on Thursday about the Mayfair launch of The Biltmore, Hilton’s new luxury London hotel and the first in Europe to operate under the new LXR brand.

Our hotel booking partner, Emyr Thomas, dropped me a note to say that LXR is now included as part of Hilton’s Impresario scheme offered to luxury travel agents. These benefits also apply to all Conrad and Waldorf Astoria hotels.

When booking via Emyr, you receive:

$100 hotel credit per stay

one category upgrade, subject to availability (does not double-up if you already get an upgrade due to Hilton Honors status)

double Hilton Honors base points

You need to pay Best Available Rate to get these benefits. If a non-refundable Advanced Purchase rate would also work for you, you should run the maths to see whether Best Available Rate is actually cheaper when you factor in the extra goodies. For a short stay, it may well be given the $100 hotel credit.

Did you know that the Virgin Atlantic credit cards are a great way of earning Hilton Honors points? Two Virgin Points can be converted into three Hilton Honors points. The Virgin Atlantic cards are the only Visa or Mastercard products in the UK which can indirectly earn Hilton Honors points. You can apply here.

You can also earn Hilton Honors points indirectly with American Express Gold (20,000 bonus points), the American Express Rewards Credit Card (5,000 bonus points) and – for small business owners – American Express Business Gold (20,000 bonus points) and Business Platinum (40,000 bonus points).

Thanks Rob/Rhys, your previous article about BA sale inspired us to book a week in Tirana. But we had a choice – to go BA business with a shabby service / old planes to get me Bronze OR to go with Aegean economy for the same price with a nice stopover in Athens, free upgrades to business on 2 legs of 4, and confirming Gold for my partner. Guess which one we chose in the end? 😉

OT: American Express Rewards Gold Credit Card
Is the 10,000 points for £15k spend just a first year bonus or is it recurring?

Assuming recurring, is there a way to see a progress bar, there was in the first year but it’s now disappeared off the main screen.

Not impressed with Emyr at Bon Vivant. Not responded to me on last two occasions. Both were about Dubai hotels – Jumeirah and Atlantis. Assume not worth enough to him.

  Were you using the HfP webform, or were you emailing him directly? I’ve found that the form is quite failure-prone, had to email Rob the first time I tried contacting Emyr. But since then, I’ve corresponded with Emyr directly and he’s been absolutely wonderful.

  They probably dropped into spam – the automated form is troublesome sometimes. If you’d let me know I could have extracted the form from HFP and resent. He books all my Jumeirah stuff and he can get you decent extra benefits on top via the special Jumeirah luxury travel agent scheme so it would have been a very easy one.
  
  Emyr has no minimum size order. We both know that readers are likely to try him out with a small booking before coming back with larger stuff. I see the stats and bookings run from $100 to $20,000. Frankly, even small bookings are not hugely troublesome as long as you know what you want and just want an idea of what Emyr can do for you on top.

  Emyr has made single night bookings on our behalf at the IC Le Grand and IC Madrid, and on relatively inexpensive nights at that. Fortunately it is easy to see the flexible rate on the IHG web-site and this matches the rate Emyr is able to book, with the additional benefits including club lounge access. So hopefully these sorts of bookings are normally not too much of a bother for him. His customer service is excellent.
