Last month we ran a great competition in association with Etihad Airways giving away one of the most valuable prizes we have ever offered.

One lucky Head for Points reader was going to win two Business Class return tickets from London or Manchester to Abu Dhabi.

We can now announce that the winner is:

Steven M.

Congratulations and we hope you enjoy your flight.

Steven M knows he has won, so if you are also a Steven M ….. sorry.  Thank you to everyone who entered – we had a fantastic response.

Etihad has recently announced a permanent fourth daily service from Heathrow to Abu Dhabi during the Winter season, from 26th October.  This evening service will be operated by a Boeing 787 and is in addition to the existing three A380 services.

Etihad is currently operating five daily flights to Abu Dhabi from Heathrow over the Summer, until 28th September.  After that it will drop to four daily flights until the end of the Summer season on 26th October, at which point the new ‘four daily’ schedule kicks in.

Regarding IHG… I just booked Intercontinental Club room in Sofia using IHG website (which boasts a Best Price Guarantee). Kicking myself now as spotted same room on booking.com for £32 cheaper! Alas I opted for non-refundable price so I am stuck overpaying. Sharing my experience merely to remind readers that a quick comparison with booking.com (and maybe other sites) is worthwhile and booking direct with IHG is not necessarily cheapest as they claim. Received very poor customer service chasing this up.

So why not use the Best Rate Guarantee? Although it won’t apply if the booking.com price is a ‘members only’ rate.

  • Debbie says:

I tried but was rejected on the following grounds:

We checked http://www.booking.com to look at the rates available and found that the rates listed on that site do not meet the following requirement for eligibility:
The lower rate must be quoted, booked and paid for in the default currency of the hotel as shown on the IHG website which is Euros. However, third-party website will take payment in Bulgarian Lev.
