Hilton Honors has just launched its new Autumn promotion which is now open for registration.
The promotion is called ‘Power Up‘.
To give Hilton credit, it is very straightforward with virtually no small print.
You will earn DOUBLE Hilton Honors base points for every stay between 9th September and 5th January.
Pay with the (not available to new cardholders) Hilton Honors UK credit card, issued by Barclaycard, and you get TRIPLE points. For our German readers, the DKB Hilton credit card also earns triple points, as of course do all of the US-issued Hilton credit cards.
There is NO ‘starting with your second stay’ rule. You get double points from your first stay during the promotional period.
For most brands, you will earn 10 base points per $1 spent, plus an additional 10 promotional points plus any status bonus.
Given that I value a Hilton Honors point at around 0.33p, you are getting a good return on your spending here. 20 points per $1 is an 8% rebate and that is before you add in any status bonus.
If you still have the Hilton Honors Barclaycard then it is an even better deal for UK stays. This card has a 3% foreign exchange fee, however, so I would be ambivalent about this part of the offer for stays outside the UK. You are getting 3.3p of extra points per $1 in return for a 2.95p foreign exchange fee for every £1 you spend. This initially seems OK, but you need to remember that you only get points on the ex-VAT part of your bill. You’ll also be incurring the 3% FX fee on all non-qualifying charges.
You can register for the offer here.
There is not much small print except that you need to register in advance via the Hilton website.
Apart from that, all is good:
There is no minimum stay requirement
Existing bookings still count
All Hilton Family properties (Hilton, Hampton, Curio, Waldorf-Astoria, Conrad etc) are taking part – there is no list of non-participating hotels
Remember that the Home2 Suites and Tru brands earn a lower 5 base points per $1.status purposes.
Remember that Hilton is still offering a status match
If you have top tier status with another hotel programme, Hilton Honors will give you a 90 day free trial of Hilton Gold status. You can request a status match here.
You need to supply a screenshot showing your top tier status in another programme plus a screenshot showing a paid stay in the previous 12 months.
If you complete 18 nights during the 90 days you will be upgraded to Diamond status until 31st March 2021. If you manage 10 nights you will retain Gold status until 31st March 2021. If you don’t manage 10 nights, you will drop back to Blue after your 90 day trial.
Register for ‘Power Up’ now
Hilton’s new ‘double base points’ is a decent offer, especially for people doing longer, more expensive stays. I’m very happy, as I have a £1,000 Hilton stay booked for October!
You should make sure you register here if you have any Hilton stays coming up over the next four months.
Even without Hilton Honors status, you will be earning 20 points (which I value at 6.6p) per $1. This is an 8% rebate on your spending. Anyone with Hilton status will do even better..
Even if you don’t have any stays planned, it is still worth registering just in case – a lot can happen between now and 5th January.
