IHG Rewards Club, the loyalty scheme covering InterContinental, Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza etc, has launched its new Autumn promotion.

It is another version of the long-running Accelerate offer, and for the second time in a row it is called “Make Every Stay Count”.

You can find out your targets, and register, on the IHG website here.

It is valid for stays between 1st September and 31st December.

The list of targets is shorter than we have seen in the past.  I got just four:

25,200 bonus points for staying at four different brands

4,500 bonus points for booking one ‘points and cash’ redemption

2,800 bonus points for staying at three different hotels

8,000 bonus points for four stays using the corporate rate of the company I haven’t worked at for nine years and which very few hotels accept

Since I would have to trigger the 2,800 ‘three hotels’ bonus in order to trigger the ‘four brands’ bonus, I will be getting 28,000 bonus points for four staysI value IHG Rewards Club points at 0.4p so that is a bonus worth £112.  If those four stays are just one night each, that is an extra reward of £28 per night.  Not bad.

IHG Accelerate Autumn 2019 Make Every Stay Count

I also looked at my wife’s account.  Once I had registered my wife, she got the following targets which are even easier:

21,600 bonus points for staying at three different brands

2,800 bonus points for staying at two different hotels

4,000 bonus points for booking a stay of 4+ nights

Again, the first two would trigger together.  She would earn 24,400 bonus points, valued at £97.60, for just three one night stays.  This is £32.53 of bonus points per night plus the value of the base points from her stays.

(It looks like any family stays this Autumn will be booked as two rooms, one per account, rather than taking a suite!)

As usual with IHG promotions, existing stays will count and do not need to be rebooked.  The only exception in the past has been for any target you have which insists on booking via the IHG app.

Note that some people are getting a very weird offer of ‘1000 bonus points for one stay’ – and nothing more.  This seems to be an IHG IT issue and not actually your final selection.  If you have this, I would continue to check online over the next few days and see if it changes.

IHG Rewards Club Accelerate Make Every Stay Count bonus points promotion

Conclusion

The new IHG Rewards Club promotion is good, at least for us.  Given that it covers a four month period, I would go so far as to say it is generous.  Given the proliferation of IHG brands these days, hitting three different ones is fairly straightforward.  Hitting four is a bit trickier, but let’s see.

We don’t yet know what Hilton Honors or Marriott Bonvoy will be offering for the Autumn, of course, although we will find out in the next couple of weeks.

I strongly recommend signing up now given that the new IHG promotion is valid for stays from 1st Sepember.  Even if you have no stays planned I would still register now as 31st December is a long way away and a lot can change.

Note that there is a deadline for registration of 18th October which is not something I like to see – why should someone who unexpectedly finds themself in an IHG property in November or December lose out?

You can register for the new IHG Accelerate promotion here.

Ok. Not bad offers. So layering, I should be able to complete my offers with:-

One two night break at a HIX, paid with points and cash across a Saturday night.

One 4 night break at a HIX, across a Saturday night.

    Earning just under 40K.

There are a lot of competing offers out there, many “hidden” from general view.

A recent Holiday Inn stay was booked via an employee offer to TA, then click through to TA by Hotels.com offering 25% return and 2 hotels.com nights. When checking in, I asked for points for my breakfast pre-payment, the receptionist asked why I hadn’t booked through the IHG site this time (I’m a regular). When I showed her the offer she gave me the Gold benefit and points anyway for my loyalty.

    • Andrew says:

Note that “points and cash” tasks don’t stack. They are points stays and therefore don’t count as a qualifying rate.

  • Ralphy says:

This is the best Accelerate I’ve ever been offered, 103,800 points, with the last ones being pretty poor. Wonder if they knew I had moved all my status to Marriott and Hilton?!

    • Andrew says:

That’s very good. So you should be able to achieve that with two 2-night stays and two 1-night stays.

  • Andrew Cooper says:

    Mine is bizarre

    Stay once get 1000 points

    That’s my only offer. Simple’

    • Ant says:

Me too, hoping it changes soon since i have 10 IHG bookings coming up

      • Chrisasaurus says:

Well, not a lot of incentive for them to improve them there, sadly!

  • Paul M says:

As a spire elite member I got the cracking deal of stay once get 1000 points. It’s not reusable so bit if a joke really. Rang up the IHG rewards customer service to ask if this is correct. They are so useless apparently they will contact me in 5 working days to tell me if it’s correct. I think Hilton will start to get my business as the IHG customer service is truly shocking. Shame as staff in hotels are usually great.

    • Dimitri says:

Well Hilton has a shocking website so they kinda balance out.

    • Keith Appanah says:

I feel the same level of dismay as you. I have Platinum Ambassador status. I book 90% of my stays at IHG hotels but don’t quite make 75 stays/year required for Spire. My offer was also a pathetic 1,000 for staying one night. Its actually an insult and i too questioned if it could possibly be correct. I have emailed the Rewards Club (still awaiting a reply) and sent message using the live chat feature on their Facebook page. I just got the standard “rest assured, we value your loyalty” response.

I have just made several IHG bookings for a forthcoming trip to Japan in November. I was going to book more stays at other Japanese cities as well as Warsaw, Istanbul, Madrid and Frankfurt for the rest of this year. However, with such a pitiful bonus offer I have absolutely no incentive to book any more IHG stays for the rest of 2019. Marriott, Hilton and Radisson are getting my business instead. What a disgraceful way to lose loyal customers!

      • Lady London says:

I don’t think they’ll notice unless you cancel existing stays too – and take whatever opportunity you can to mention.

Apparently though there was a messup and in early September the Accelerate targets for a lot of people will be revised – I would think it would be many of those who got the 1,000 which surely looks like an accident.

      • Tilly71 says:

Your lucky, I’m Spire & only got double points.

  • Paul74 says:

Three targets plus the ‘achievement’ one. 13,200 for four brands (I can always drag myself over the line with stays at my local walking distance HI & HIE I suppose). 4,800 for two Crowne Plazas. 5,600 for two weekends. 23,600 for getting all three. So that’s a total 47,200 bonus for a minimum of seven nights of stays. I’ll ponder whether that’s worth a go. Having recently crossed the threshold for retaining Spire, the plan had been to use points for leisure stays for the rest of the year.
Doubt I’ll go out of my way but if I suddenly see a route…

    • Lady London says:

      6 nights= 2 weekends at different Crowne P, plus 2 other 1-nighters at different brands? =6

  • Martin C says:

    Poor offer here too

  • martyn ford says:

I`m Spire Ambassador and couldn`t register. I rang IHG who told me that Accelerate 3 is targetted and I am not eligible.

    • Optimus Prime says:

Really? That explains why OH and I can’t register either…

  • Sarah O'Neill says:

    Wasn’t able to register
