Unite, the union representing 4000+ Heathrow Airport employees, has just announced that the strike scheduled for tomorrow, 5th August has been suspended.
UPDATE, 5pm MONDAY: Unite has announced that the Tuesday strikes have also been postponed. Workers will vote on a new pay offer tabled by the airport. Strike on 23rd / 24th August remain on the table whilst this vote takes place.
The suspension only affects the first day of planned strike action. At this time, the second day – commencing at 00:01 on Tuesday morning and running until 23:59 Tuesday Evening – is still scheduled to go ahead.

The suspension has been agreed in order to allow further talks between senior Heathrow Airport and Unite officials at ACAS tomorrow, with the intention of “averting a second day of planned strike action”.
It is not clear how airlines will respond to this. Contingency plans already set in place – including the diversion of some flights to other London airports – are likely to remain, although the stricter rules on hand baggage may now be lifted for Monday.
