Get a 40% bonus when you buy Hyatt points

Until 27th August, Hyatt is offering a 40% bonus when you buy World of Hyatt points via this link.

The minimum purchase for the bonus is 5,000 points. Unlike Hyatt’s last offer, the 40% kicks in immediately from 5,000 points – there is no taper.

40% is the most generous bonus you will see for buying Hyatt points.

This is obviously worth a look if you need to top up your account. It may also be worthwhile if considering a stay in a top tier Park Hyatt such as the ones in Paris or Sydney, where buying the points may be cheaper than paying cash.

World of Hyatt

It is also worth a look if you wanted to take advantage of the great Budapest luxury deal we covered yesterday. 8,000 points for a night at Párisi Udvar would be $144 (€128) vs €230-€350 if you pay cash.

The new-ish Park Hyatt resort in Mallorca is another location where buying points makes sense. Prices for cash are a little scary with rooms over €500 at peak periods. A redemption at 25,000 points per night ($432 based on buying 50k for two nights) would be a better deal.

When I was at the Aircraft Interiors Expo trade show in Hamburg in April I bought points to stay at the Park Hyatt. The fair had caused hotel rates to spike to over €500 and there was a substantial saving by buying 15,000 World of Hyatt points per night. Unfortunately this hotel is now 20,000 points per night but buying would still have made sense.

Beginner question….I’ve just booked flights (for cash) with Qatar. I normally fly BA and have a voucher to use and so want Avios. I assume I should therefore select BA not Qatar as my frequent flier option but is there any reason/flexibility to consider keeping within Qatar as qmiles? Thanks

OT:
I obtained the BAPP a month ago after holding Gold for a year (have just been charged the annual fee and received the 10000 bonus MRs). I would be interested in holding on to my MR balance rather than immediately transferring it out to BAEC, so would be interested in the Rewards card. Is it possible to somehow “downgrade” from the gold to the rewards card or is a new application the only way to go? And if downgrade isn’t a possibility, does anyone have experience in being accepted for a new Amex just one month after having been approved for a different one? Quite unhelpfully, there is no eligibility checker for the Rewards card, and I’d rather apply with at least some certainty.

  Highly doubt you’ll be able to downgrade. But applying for a new Amex is very easy, have just taken this route myself (although not from a Gold). They normally don’t do another credit check, since they already have it on reference from your last application.

OT: When downgrading BAPP to Blue via online Blue application how long does it normally take for the account to switch to Blue? I presume that despite applying online this will not be an automatic approval and will go to a manual decision?

RE yesterday’s bits on shop small/Selfridges etc..

I got an email confirmation for the £30 back from £100 on Selfridges on my primary card, but didn’t get one for the supplementary card, even though both transactions were after the other.

The offers were saved to both cards. Will the supplementary card trigger the offer?

  I really wouldn’t worry about the email. It really is hit or miss if you get them.

      People are referring to Selfridges own giftcards. They buy multiple giftcards with (hopefully) the offer being on more than one of their amex cards so they can then get 30% off a larger purchase, say £200 or £300.

The Park Hyatt in Mallorca is currently 790 euros a night in Mid August, can be got for 12500 points and 187 euro or 25000 points per night. We stayed last year its very good, likewise the park Hyatt in New York , 30000 points, when rates are $800 per night.

  Balearics (and even mainland Spain) are crazy prices in the summer holidays! Thinking of having a European holiday next year for the short flight but baulking at paying the same as we do for 3 weeks in the Caribbean with much better beaches, world class diving & snorkelling and far fewer fellow tourists!
