Marriott Bonvoy and Emirates Skywards have a low profile partnership called ‘Your World Rewards’.  It allows you to double dip with Emirates Skywards miles and Marriott Bonvoy points in the same transaction.

‘Your World Rewards’ is designed to encourage Emirates flyers to stay at Marriott Bonvoy hotels and vice versa.  The bottom line is that signing up is a no-brainer if you qualify

Do you qualify for ‘Your World Rewards’?

‘Qualifying’ means that you have either:

  • Gold Elite status or higher in Marriott Bonvoy or
  • Silver status or higher in Emirates Skywards

Full details can be found on the Emirates website here and on the Marriott website here.

Your World Rewards Marriott Emirates

If you are an Emirates status member staying at a Marriott hotel:

If you are an Emirates Skywards Silver, Gold or Platinum member you will receive 1 Skywards mile for every $1 you spend in a Marriott Bonvoy hotel.  Importantly, this is in addition to the Marriott Bonvoy points that you already receive.  It is a genuine extra benefit.

If you are a Gold or Platinum (sorry Silvers!) Skywards member, you will also receive additional Marriott Bonvoy benefits which are equivalent to those that a Gold-level Bonvoy member would receive.  These are:

  • Priority check-in
  • 4pm late check-out subject to availability (this is better than Bonvoy Gold who only get 2pm)
  • Free wi-fi

If you are a Bonvoy member flying with Emirates:

Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite, Platinum Elite, Titanium Elite or Ambassador Elite members will receive 3 Marriott Bonvoy points per $1 spent on Emirates flights.  All Emirates flights count as long as your ticket is under an EK flight code.

This is a very generous deal in my view.  I value Marriott Bonvoy points at 0.5p eachA £3,000 ($3,750) Emirates business class flight would therefore earn you £55+ of free hotel stays.  This is on top of your usual Skywards miles.

Remember that you can obtain Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status for free by signing up for the American Express Platinum charge card.  You will retain your Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status for the rest of the current membership year even if you later choose to cancel your Platinum card.

The Platinum Card comes with a sign-up bonus of 30,000 American Express Membership Rewards points which converts into 45,000 Marriott Bonvoy points.

Can I double-check something? If as a Marriott Platinum and Emirates Blue, you stay at Marriott hotels, are you supposed to earn points? Because my account is linked since the SPG days, but no points have ever reached me…

    • Pangolin says:

You won’t earn Skywards miles whatever your Marriott status if you are only EK Blue. You need to be Silver or better.

From the T&Cs: Yes they’re linked. “2.1 Hotel Stays. A Your World Rewards Participant who is an Emirates Skywards Silver Member, Emirates Skywards Gold Member or Emirates Skywards Platinum Member in the Emirates Skywards programme will earn one Skywards Mile for every one US dollar or its foreign equivalent denomination spent on Qualifying Rates during Qualifying Stays at Marriott Bonvoy Participating Properties in addition to earning 3 Points per one US dollar or its foreign equivalent denomination spent in accordance with the Marriott Bonvoy Programme Rules if the reservation includes the Your World Reward Participant’s Marriott Bonvoy Membership Account number.”

It’s one significant additional advantage of being EK Silver for Bonvoy Members with Gold+ status.

    • Adam says:

That’s my situation as well. For the hotel spend – you will earn Marriott points only: base + platnim extra. Emirates spend: you will earn EK miles base (as blue) AND you will earn Marriott points.

  • Pangolin says:

Funny thing is, I was thinking about this Your World partnership last night, as I have an EK flight to DXB booked for February. I’d linked my accounts a couple of years ago but forgotten about needing to be EK Silver to earn on Marriott stays.

So I contacted Emirates via chat and asked for a status match of my Aegean Gold. Their policy is only to offer one tier higher. As I was Blue he offered me Silver on the spot – but it’s a challenge rather than a match.

I have to do two Eco (Flex) round trips (or one Biz) in the next 12 months and then I’ll be bumped up to Silver.

Obviously I’d prefer Gold but even Silver has some nice benefits: Priority Check-in, Priority Boarding, Lounge access @ DXB, Free seat selection.

That and the ability to earn miles from my Bonvoy stays is enough to make me interested in getting/retaining this tier.

  • Pangolin says:

Plus, you also get a 25% bonus on awards miles (50% for Gold).

In summary, EK Silver is worth a lot more than Star Alliance silver, which is basically worthless outside the airline partnership you have the status in.
