Virgin Atlantic is currently running its semi-regular bonus on ‘Miles Booster’.

‘Miles Booster’ IS a potentially very good deal.  This version is better than ever, both in terms of the discount and the number of miles you can buy.

Miles Booster only works if you have a Virgin Atlantic cash or reward flight booked or have taken one in the last six months.  With this offer, you are able to buy an additional 300% of the base miles you will earn from the flight for just 0.71p each.

How Virgin’s Miles Booster works

If you have a New York economy flight booked, for example, you would earn 6,916 base miles from your trip.

Miles Booster allows you to buy up to 20,748 additional miles for just 1p each. Plus, with this promotion, you would get an extra 40% bonus as well.

The bonus is staggered.  Buy 1x miles flown and you get a 20% bonus.  Buy 2x miles flown and you get a 30% bonus.  Buy 3x miles flown and you get a 40% bonus.  The maths in this article are based on buying 3x and getting the full 40% bonus.

If you maximised the Miles Booster option for a New York economy flight, you would be able to buy a total of 29,047 Virgin Flying Club miles for just £207.48.  That is 0.71p each, which is well worth considering.

You can retrospectively buy miles via Miles Booster for any Virgin Atlantic flights taken in the last six months, cash or reward.  Yes, even previously flown or currently booked redemptions count.  Note that – for flights which you have not yet taken – you will not receive your Miles Booster miles until after you have flown.

Even if you don’t have any current bookings, you may be able to take advantage of this based on recent flights you’ve taken.  At this price, I would consider the Miles Booster deal if you know that you will be using them in short or medium term.

This offer runs until 14th July.

Damn, had purchased the 30% offer about 3 months ago for flights in Sep and Oct. Looks like you can’t cancel and repurchase from what it says in the T&Cs, anyone had success doing so?

  • Jonathan says:

I sense a devaluation coming, flooding the market with cheap points….

    • Chas says:

Not on the basis of this there isn’t. Virgin ran this promotion twice last year: last July I used it to top up my miles for a trip I had made the previous Easter, and at some point in the Autumn I used it for my upcoming trip later this month.

I haven’t looked at the T&Cs, but I presume that I can’t use it again for the same trip later this month. Can anyone confirm if they’ve been able to double-dip before.

      • Jonathan says:

Previous promotions have only ever been double the base distance flown and 30% bonus which worked out at 1p per mile. These is quadrupple the base miles flown plus 40% bonus which works out at 0.71p per mile.

        • Alan says:

Was 0.769p/mile for the last promo for me (2x w/30%) – jus checked my receipt 🙂

  • pablo says:

OT: email just came from BAEC: 40% bonus avios on Tesco clubcard voucher conversions until the end of the year. 840 avios per £2.50 voucher instead of the usual 600 avios

    • Alan says:

Wow! Any limits? Hopefully VS will offer the same! No email received here, did it say if targeted?

      • pablo says:

To qualify for the 40% bonus Avios the Eligible Participant will need to have collected Avios with Shell Drivers Club in the last thirty-six months.
From 11 July 2019 any Tesco Clubcard points converted to Avios in your Tesco Clubcard account by midnight on 31 December 2019 will qualify for 40% bonus Avios. Any points earned after this date will not qualify for the 40% bonus.
This promotion cannot be combined with any other offer.
Bonus Avios will be credited to the Eligible Participant within 1 month of the base Avios being credited to their BAEC account.

    Hi

Can anyone help? Am thinking of taking advantage of the triple boost for Virgin and with a flight to Johannesburg I am taking, if I boost by 3 x and pay using my Virgin Atlantic card I can get 48,100 miles for £336 approx. Is that good value?

    Thanks

  • Henry Young says:

Great deal. I just booked a redemption single off-peak HKG>LHR which last time I ran the numbers works out as 4.6p per point, and nabbed the 40% miles booster topping up my account at 0.7p per point. That’s a 6.57 multiplier between acquisition and redemption value. Beat that !!!
