Hertz has launched a Summer-long competition giving away one million Gold Plus Rewards points.

Until 17th September Gold Plus Rewards members can win themselves a share of the prize – and the more rentals you make the more chances you get of winning.

You can also enter simply by signing up for Gold Plus Rewards – no rentals necessary.

How does Hertz Gold Plus Rewards work?

We (well, reader Charlieface) recently wrote a comprehensive review of the Hertz Gold Plus Rewards scheme which you can find here.

In short the earning rate is 1 point per $1 or equivalent, based on your base rate before taxes, insurance and location surcharges.

You can earn on rentals in the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Scandinavia, Finland and Benelux. Franchised locations (not owned by Hertz corporate) are often NOT included for earning or redeeming. Bookings made via online travel agents and consolidators are also non-qualifying.

Hertz Gold Plus Rewards is based on fixed price rewards, which vary from country to country – see here.

Looking at the European chart, the best redemptions in our view are Compact (class C) and Intermediate (class D) cars which cost:

900 points for one weekday
800 / 1200 points for one / two weekend days respectively
2800 points for one week

The competition

Throughout the Summer, Hertz is running a great competition giving away a total of 1 million Gold Plus Rewards points.

Luckily, they aren’t giving all the points to one person. 1,111 free rental days would probably be too many.

Instead, there are a total of 436 prizes to be won.

135 weekly winners will receive one of the prizes below:

1 reward week rental (2,800 points)
1 reward weekend rental (1,200 points) or
1 reward rental day (900 points)

All entries remain in the draw until the end of competition period. 301 grand prizes will then be drawn:

1st prize: 1 winner of 291,200 points
2nd prizes: 100 winners of 1 reward week rental (2,800 points)
3rd prizes: 100 winners of 1 reward weekend rental (1,200 points)
4th prizes: 100 winners of 1 reward rental day (900 points)

How to enter

There are many ways of entering the competition. However, in order to enter you must be a Hertz Gold Plus Rewards member.

If you aren’t a member yet, you will get five prize draw entries simply for joining Gold Plus Rewards. There is absolutely no requirement to rent in order to enter. The link to join is here – see the top right corner.

Both new and existing members can get an additional five prize draw entries for opting in to receive marketing e-mail updates from Hertz.

Entries with Hertz bookings:

You MUST register via this site before your rentals start. It is worth registering now if you think you have may have a Hertz rental coming up between now and mid September.

You will get:

1 entry with every non-Premium vehicle rental
5 entries with every Premium vehicle rental

If you pay with a Mastercard you will get double entries on each booking.

The last day to pick up a car and be entered into the prize draw is 10th September. The car has to be returned by 17th September.

You can enter if you live in the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxemburg, Switzerland, Ireland, Finland, Sweden, Norway or Denmark.

Remember that even if you have no car rental planned at present, you can get five entries into the competition simply for signing up for Hertz Gold Plus Rewards for free. The link is here.

F**k hertz. They recently wiped my 5000 odd points….despite still being a presidents circle. No warning prior to it happening, and no notification afterwards – only realised when I went to make a redemption booking using what I thought was my carefully saved points. I’ve had health issues so not really travelled at all in the last 18 months.

  Agreed they wiped 35000 from my account on similar circumstances. A poorly worded rude retort from some key monkey gave me the signal to ditch them after many years.

    A friend of mine lost 19 BMI family accounts with 38k in each of them. He found them under a pile of pizza flyers 3 week after the deadline to transfer to BAEC.
    
    A walk down memory lane for the old BMIers remember the 5k sign up for new Russian members LOL you could have 2 in each HH

    Hertz makes it abundantly clear that points expire after 18 months of no activity.
    
    So your “losing 35000 point under similar circumstances” was no one else’s fault but yours!

Wish I hadn&t rented with Hertz so far this year then. Very biased to new joiners. Not that it matters. This is a lottery type promotion so not much chance of winning anyway. Tellme if a small birthday cake comed out and you are told it’s going to be cut into 100 pieces, are you motivated?

Let’s also note that in other main countries Hertz has just devalued existing points members earned in their rewards scheme. I cannot imagine thèm not doing that very soon in uk and europe too. All in all I’m a bit wary of doing more bookings with Hertz right now.

I’m starting to look at putting my bookings to Europcar. Have also made a note to look at Sixt which gets excellent feedback.

  if i already have a Hertz account i can get 5 entries by signing up for junk mail … but if i open a new account (and sign up for junk) i get 10 entries !

I thought to give Hertz a try after getting status via IHG Spire. After at least one hour trying to sign up, still no luck. Their head of IT should be be very proud.

I am very pleased with Hertz contrary to some other readers. I am now holding a President’s Circle status due to the HSBC World Elite card. My best example was in Malta where someone hit my car in the car park and drove off. Hertz were so understanding that they didn’t charge me anything even though they were entitled to of course. Everywhere I rent I get great upgrades and other freebies. My only disappointment is with the countries in which they operate under a franchise such as Israel. There they don’t grant any points but all other perks are offered.

OT: Is the Platinum Additional Card also made out of metal? I have an urge to request a plastic card as a rail ticket machine in Japan just choked on the metal one.
