Rolling Luggage has dropped Avios – and Charles Tyrwhitt is dropping Avios next week

  I’m thinking of ways of spending my 2k to trigger my 4kmr points. Can you buy currency on your Amex and qualify as spend ?

    In the past, I have used Amex at Post offices to buy dollars and Euros. Do NOT make a habit of it, as it triggered a full review by Amex….

    You’ll pay cash advance fee & interest immediately so its an expensive way of triggering a bonus! What’s the deadline? Maybe pay a chunk of your council tax through a PayPoint that accepts AmEx (Co-Op?).

      Nope. It went through as a Post Office purchase, same as stamps etc.

  O/T I’m afraid but can anyone give any advice on my issue. In September 2017 (yes that long ago) I booked a stay at a Hilton via the Avios.com website which was giving a decent amount of bonus points. I stayed at the hotel in August 2018 and waited for my points to post. I then received an email from Avios.com on the 15th of May this year saying that due to the purchase 16,350 points would be in my account within 72 hours. However, as most of us will know, the Avios.com account has closed down and all my points should have been transferred over to BA. The issue I have is that as I can no longer enter my Avios account to transfer the points across, how can I get them credited to my BA Exec Club account? I spoke to Avios and they said it was now a BA issue so I spoke to Exec club and , guess what, they said it was an Avios issue.
  Has anyone else experienced this problem and if so can you suggest any solution?

    The idea was that they would go into your Avios.com account but be automatically sent across. Are you sure that a new BA account wasn’t created for you when your avios.com account was closed? If you ring BA they may find a 2nd account for you.

    The points may also have been withdrawn – Hilton has in the past unilaterally changed the rules about what counts, for eg at one point they decided they weren’t paying on room only rates.

      Thanks Rob – I will check with BA and see if there has been a 2nd account setup. Given the amount of points at stake it’s worth a go.

        Had a GOOD experience with Avios this week. I called to book flights and use up 2 Lloyds upgrade vouchers, which all worked fine, and then had a chat about avios accounts and all of the separate AerClub, Flybe, Avios log ins. She could see all of my old accounts (except Iberia) and found one which had been getting Shell and other points, which had a small but useful total which she could transfer across to BA. So they can be helpful if you get the right agent.

          Me too…booked another Lloyd’s Upgrade for 12 months out….no intention of using it to the booked destination, but will change it to somewhere else we want to go in the same zone later. No point in wasting it.

    Hilton are terrible with this – I’ve had so many stays with them that haven’t credited through avios.com for no reason at all. I’m afraid you may struggle to get your points…

  Remember the initial bonus that was originally offered by Rolling Luggage when they launched a couple of years back ? Despite wasted phone calls I gave up, and sold the item I purchased on EBay…never again with that lot.
