IHG Rewards Club adds two casino hotels in Macau – The Venetian and The Parisian

IHG, the chain behind InterContinental, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn etc, is expanding its ‘InterContinental Alliance Resorts’ portfolio with the addition of two Macau based casino hotels.  You can earn and spend IHG Rewards Club points at these properties.

According to the page dedicated to the scheme on the IHG website:

“InterContinental Alliance Resorts bring amazing resorts to landmark locations where there currently isn’t an InterContinental Resort“.

…. although, at present, these ‘landmark locations’ are just Las Vegas and now Macau.  The two new hotels have not yet been added to this page although they are showing on ihg.com.

The two new properties to be added are The Venetian and The Parisian, both in Macao.  These are sister hotels to the The Venetian and The Palazzo in Las Vegas which are already available for IHG points.

In addition, The Londoner Hotel in Macao (“Bringing the Best of London to Macao”) will join the alliance when it opens in 2020 following the renovation of the current Holiday Inn Macao Cotai Central.

The big surprise with these two new InterContinental Alliance Resorts is the price that IHG are charging.  The going rate for a single night is 75,000 IHG Rewards Club points.

This is 5,000 points points more than the existing highest price in IHG Rewards Club, which maxes out at 70,000 points per night for the top InterContinental properties.

It is unclear whether this pricing is an exception for non-IHG properties such as those in Macao or whether IHG will increasing its pricing for existing properties too.  If would not be a surprise to see some of the recently acquired Six Senses resorts join IHG Rewards Club at a premium price.
