  OT – is the curve blue £200 cash withdrawal monthly limit for both domestic and foreign withdrawals combined or seperate? So could I take out £200 in the UK and same again in Spain when I am on holiday next month?

  I’ve trawled the curve website but I can’t find a a definite answer.

    I believe its £200 regardless of currency, but I’ve never heard of anything being charged for going over the £200 at home or abroad.

    When I was using more cash than I am now I went over the £200 monthly limit accidentally a couple of times and was not charged for the withdrawals. It seems this is because they don’t have an automated process in place to spot this and so would only do it manually if a card was being severely over taxed in terms of Fair Use.

    But my experience of making regular large cash withdrawals ended in January this year when we sold my late mother’s house and I no longer had to pay both a gardener and a cleaning lady weekly in cash. So their policy might have changed since then…….

  OT – Curve, with an underlying IHG card – does anyone know if foreign currency exchange transactions are classed as normal purchases for the purposes of the IHG card or cash advances.

  Will be using Curve/Revolut where possible on my next trip but will also need a fair amount of cash due to local conditions.

    Naturally they are considered as normal purchases as Curve converts your foreign currency transaction in to sterling and then charges the underlying card in sterling. As a result, Curve & Revolut are great cards for travelling.

    Same applies to the Hilton card Jane.

      Perhaps I am misunderstanding your reply, or did not make my question clear enough. I am specifically talking about buying foreign currency at a UK airport with Curve, not making transaction abroad. I am familiar with how both Curve and Revolut cards work in regard to transactions made abroad.

        I would have thought that the bad exchange rate at the airport would overwhelm any advantage from using Curve?
        E.g. for Cuba cheapest option is to draw CUCs from local ATM (on a card from a non-US bank)

        Of course, if you are expensing this at the exchange rate that you get, then I understand!

          The rate isn’t too bad if you pre-order, its the walk up rates that are horrendous, plus if I use the price promises with Travelex it gets better. If I withdraw locally there are cash machine charges plus the curve cash withdrawal charges from curve above the £200. Was hoping to get a few points from the transaction that’s all.

      I used Curve linked to Lloyds MC to top up my Cash Passport in $ and got charged £3 by Lloyds. I couldn’t be bothered challenging it and in any case, now Curve doesn’t seem to work with Cash Passport at all.

        My Avios CashPassport was out of date and on attempting to renew was told that MC was no longer supporting this. My only option was to cash out the currencies on it and have the fee waived. It’s been a useful card , although I recognise the exchange rates have not been brilliant

          Thanks Jill, that explains it! I like to use it like a little savings account for holidays to cover meals out so we don’t have a huge credit card bill on top of our hotel bill. But once my Lloyds cards finally bite the dust (still no letter), I should probably move over to Revolut.

  OT – Does earning Avios impact your BAEC start/year end?

  I have not yet signed up to BAEC but plan to travel in September this year.

  I have roughly 400 Avios to convert from Shell Drivers Club before they close on 30 June.
  If I earn Avios before flying BA will my year start early? Thanks.

    no – for tier point purposes
    yes – for 3 year Avios staying alive purposes but surely you can’t be thinking of that ?!!! transfer them over now & start earning free Avios for heaven’s sake, every time you earn another point all your stash gets another 3 years’ life
