Do you know that American Express has a private lounge for cardholders at the O2 Arena?

I was having a look at the reservations process for the American Express lounge at the O2 Arena last week, and noticed that it has changed entirely in the last year or so.

I thought it was worth running over the new details today, especially as Amex is offering a free drink to all guests.

A few years ago, American Express expanded its ‘Experiences’ programme – which gets cardholders early access to tickets for certain cultural events – by opening a private Amex lounge at the O2 Arena. They made quite a fuss about it at the time but you may well have forgotten that it exists by now.

The procedure for getting in has changed entirely.

In the past, you had to register online up to 14 days before the event.  This has all gone.  There is now NO advance booking allowed until the day itself.

This is the new process:

“If you have already bought your tickets to an arena event at The O2, London, you have the opportunity to access this Lounge. Simply make your way to The Guests Services Hub under the ICON Staircase and show your American Express Card with a valid  show ticket to secure up to 4 passes per Cardmember, should they be available.

Passes are provided on a first come, first served basis. Capacity is limited so access cannot be guaranteed. Arrive early to avoid disappointment.

The Lounge is located on the ground floor of The O2. If you have managed to secure a pass at The Guest Services Hub, enter the arena through the VIP lanes at Entrance B and show your pass for entry to the lounge.

Yes, getting a lounge pass also allows you to use the shorter VIP entrance queues as well.

Full details are on the American Express website here.

Get a free drink at the American Express lounge at the O2

Until the end of 2019, American Express cardholders can get a free drink in the lounge between 6pm and 7pm.

This is how it works:

To redeem one complimentary drink, Cardmembers must present their American Express Card to collect a voucher from the venue host located at the welcome desk in the American Express Lounge, The O2. The Lounge is located by Entrance B after entering the VIP lanes and security bag searches and scan of event ticket.

At the point of service at the bar or from the reserved table service, hand over the voucher to a member of the bar or waiting staff to claim one complimentary drink.

Only the products listed below are included in the promotional offer.

One glass of single house spirit and mixer (Vodka: Eristoff, Gin: Bombay Sapphire, Rum: Bacardi Carta Blanka (white Rum), Bacardi Oakheart (spiced rum), Whisky: Jack Daniel’s, Cognac Martell VS, Tequila: El Jimador Blanco)

Just in time for Mrs P’s birthday treat – Backstreet Boys! 😛

    • Shoestring says:

tell her to get the spelling right when she orders:
Bacardi Carta Blanka – that draws a blank, must be alcohol-free
Conto Vecchio Pinto Grigio Blush – makes me want to sing!
      Volare oh, oh
      Cantare oh, oh, oh
      Nel blu dipinto di blu
      Felice di stare lassù
E volavo, volavo felice più in alto del sole
      Ed ancora più su
Mentre il mondo pian piano spariva lontano laggiù
Una musica dolce suonava soltanto per me

      • Oh! Matron! says:

I now have an ear worm for the day, albeit not a bad one…. And now sway!

      • Lady London says:

Thanks Shoestring. Now I have an earworm for the day. Would you believe when I worked for Warner Music, I managed to snaffle a whole CD of different tracks, each track was “Volare” sung by a different singer. Still got it somewhere.

thanks to you I can’t get it out of my head now 🙂 It’s one of my favourite songs

        • Shoestring says:

heh heh! the career I didn’t have – I was working at CBS in the summer in Aylesbury, factory stuff to earn some dosh aged 18 – but my talent got spotted and I was offered a proper job in mgt development stream if I skipped this stupid university idea. Which I turned down. (Quite a few companies used to like taking 18YOs and developing them internally as opposed to waiting for the 21YO university graduates.)

Fanciful? Not really, I was in the year below Rob Stringer at school and pretty much the same thing happened to him, he’s now the CEO of Sony Music! (though a family connection – his elder bro – might have helped!)

    • Tilly says:

I’m going to see BSB too! Should’ve used this for Take That too but forgot about the lounge until I was in the arena.

  • Ant says:

The free drink voucher is only between 6-7pm which is a bit too early to be in the lounge for most events.
Also once you are in the arena you cannot go back out so you are stuck in the arena if you want to get any food or drinks.
The food in the lounge is good but expensive as you’d expect.
The band that is there most nights is brilliant and we find that the lounge is a good place to hang out after the show while the crowds disappear.

  • Craig says:

Just had time to nip in and look a couple of days ago prior to seeing Mark Knopfler. The 8pm show start worked nicely with last orders in the lounge at the Intercon.

  • Combatjohnny says:

I use it whenever i go. Much shorter queues to get in

  • flyforfun says:

Has anyone also been into the Sky Lounge and compared? No free drink, but it’s a pretty spacious lounge the couple of times I’ve been in. The good thing is you’re behind the stage so you can hear the support acts and after they finish, the stuff usher you out of the lounge so you can take your seats for the main event.

  • Graham Walsh says:

What Amex cards? Any MR, BA, SPG etc card will do? Doesn’t explicitly say (or I can see it)

  • Rui N. says:

Any Amex lounge at Wembley Stadium?

  • Mr Entitled says:

Amex lounge in Madrid would be even better. Roll on No. 6
