Hilton has launched its Summer Sale with decent weekend deals across Europe, Africa and Middle East. The sale home page is here.

The sale offers up to 30% off the standard Best Available Rate if you are a Hilton Honors member.

As usual we need to add that basing the ‘30% saving’ on the Best Available Bed & Breakfast rate is not exactly fair. Sale rates are non refundable so it is a bit cheeky to compare them to a refundable rate – but these deals do usually offer a saving on the usual ‘advanced purchase’ price. Full pre-payment needs to be made at time of booking.

This rate is only available for weekend stays between 24th May 2019 and 6th January 2020 and must be booked by 19th August.

Included is, for example, the gorgeous Hilton Paris, which I reviewed here, for £261 per night instead of £349 on 5th July 2019. As I said above, £349 is actually the ‘refundable’ price so it is not a true comparison, but the difference between the refundable and non-refundable price is usually only 10% or so.

The 30% savings are for Hilton Honors members only. The normal sale discount rate is 25%. If you aren’t a Hilton Honors member – very unlikely I admit if you are a regular HfP reader – you can sign up when booking your stay. You receive a smaller discount at Hampton by Hilton properties (10% for non members with 5% extra for members).

Don’t forget Hilton’s generous status match offer

If you have top or mid-tier status with another hotel loyalty scheme, Hilton will match it for 90 days and give you an opportunity to keep it for longer.

Details of how you can claim your status match are in this article. You will keep your Diamond or Gold status until March 2021 if you successfully complete the challenge.

Top-tier Diamond status comes with guaranteed Executive Lounge access and 4pm check-out at most brands. If you have status elsewhere that you can match, and can pick up a sale deal at a property with a decent lounge, you should get a good deal.

So if I have IHG Gold they’ll match that to their gold and as the hotel I’m looking at offers free breakfast and has an exec lounge so I’d only need to book the cheapest room or would I need an ‘executive room’.

So confusing – there are 17 separate rates for the room/hotel I’m looking at.. 17! One just merely headlined ‘sale’ along with ‘HH sale’ and ‘sale b&b’ and ‘HH sale b&b’ !!!

  The rules say that if you want to guarantee lounge access as Hilton Gold you need to book an executive room. Golds get free breakfast if that is their chosen option in their profile. A minority of hotels will make Golds have breakfast in the lounge in which case they have to grant lounge access (check Flyertalk for details about your hotel).
  
  If you opt for free breakfast you can book the “HH sale” rate. Rates described as “HH” are 2%-5% cheaper than the same rate without HH, so as to avoid being more expensive than OTAs which might also discount the normal rates by 2-5%.

  Mr T, your gold well definitely get you breakfast providing you’ve ticked it on your My Way profile choice so exclude “Breakfast rates” in your search as long as you’ve got a maximum of one guest, who will also get breakfast free. HH sale is the one to go for if you are definitely not going to amend or cancel. My experience regarding exec lounge access is that these days only Diamond get it regardless of room rate but email the hotel and ask, don’t go off reviews

    Another option with status for Hilton is to buy a Diamond status challenge on Ebay for around £90 which will give you diamond status for 90 days. 8 stays in that time will keep Diamond or 4 stays will keep gold. Something to think about especially if you can hit the stays

  Massive stealth devaluations across the board for the cheaper properties, just like they did last September.
  
  HGI Kuala Lumpur has gone from 10k to 20k also. It’s crazy how fast some of the bargain redemptions have devalued. Oman Salalah has moved from 5k to 30k in the space of a year!
  
  Hilton has almost no value for awards now, when you consider the generally low cash rates at these devalued properties (it never made much sense for mid-level places). It only really makes sense for very high end places like Maldives.
