Can you still earn Tesco Clubcard points at Esso petrol stations if they have a Tesco attached?

Avios earning from petrol has got even more confusing.
BP confirmed this week that it is leaving Nectar on 31st May. We wrote about these changes here. Esso confirmed that it is joining Nectar on 1st June and will therefore stop issuing Clubcard points (which convert to Avios) on 31st May.
But will it?
According to the Tesco Clubcard website, and an email sent to Esso-using Clubcard members, you WILL continue to earn Clubcard points (and therefore Avios and Virgin Flying Club miles) at Esso stations which include a Tesco Express store. It is clearly stated that this includes fuel as well as shop purchases.
Over at the Esso website, however, it makes no mention of continuing to offer Clubcard points. This page says that “We expect most Esso sites to accept Nectar by the 1st of June.” and “You will continue to earn Clubcard points on Esso App purchases if you have uploaded your card until the end of May 2019. After that, you should be able to collect Nectar points on qualifying Esso App purchases.”
So …..
perhaps Esso garages with a Tesco Express store will be offering either Nectar or Clubcard points from 1st June, or
perhaps Esso garages with a Tesco Express will not be accepting Nectar cards and will be sticking with Clubcard, which would be unbelievably confusing
This was never going to be a happy divorce, given how deeply integrated Tesco Express stores are within the UK Esso network.
