Hilton Honors has arranged another tour of the McLaren F1 factory at the Norman Foster-designed McLaren Technology Centre in Woking.

The date is Wednesday 26th June.  The cost is 100,000 Hilton Honors points for two people and includes lunch in a private room.  There were four packages left at 10pm last night.

Hilton Honors McLaren Factory Tour trip

No time is given but, as it says there is a lunch after the tour, I presume it is in the morning.

The factory is not normally open to the public so this is a rare opportunity to take a look inside.  Reader Nick, who tipped me off about this one, enjoyed his first one so much that he booked himself on the next one too!

You can redeem your points for a pair of tickets here.

Completely OT – BAEC keeps failing when I try to update Awardwallet and sends verification codes to each e-mail address in the household account. Is this happening to everyone? I suspect this has been covered in the last fortnight or so (probably many times – apologies if so), but I’ve been away and haven’t seen any comments.

    • Sandra says:

I have not been sent verification requests although others on here have mentioned it recently. I do seem to be getting a lot of ‘sorry we are having technical problems with site’ messages whenever I use the BA app or try to log in from anywhere else to my account. It doesn’t update and says I have no bookings/it can’t find my bookings and I have to search with my booking code etc. They then update but next time I log in are gone again!

    • Clive says:

Yes had the same thing happen to me. A right royal Pain in the A

      • Liz says:

Yes and me – had to change passwords twice in the last week.

        • Genghis says:

It’s happening to me all the time now. Someone mentioned it was due to the AW server location and BA not liking it. Tempted to remove BAEC x 4 from AW.

  • BJ says:

O/T: Don’t know why we are all worried about points, miles and amex. It’s the £ we should be hot and bothered about, who knows where it’ts going in next few weeks to months, I’m of the age that I remember enjoying over 2$/£ etc so this really hurts.

    • Shoestring says:

You wouldn’t have enjoyed 2$=1£ for very long, it hit that point a couple of times in the last 30 years and rapidly retreated

      • BJ says:

Still generally much higher than now. Most of mt time in States I’m sure it was closer to $2 than $1.50. Talking about 1980 through about 2007 IIRC.

        • Lady London says:

For me, something like about $1.66 feels like the true natural rate it should be.

        • Liz says:

$1.90 when we went to NY in 1992 and AUD was $2.50! Those were the days.

      • Alan says:

We got $1.98-£1 on a family holiday to Orlando sometime around 2007 I think it was. Made for some belting bargains in the malls. Even Disney prices didn’t seem too extravagent

        • Mark says:

off to Vegas tomorrow, everything is going to feel very expensive. oh well in for a penny in for a dollar!

          • Liz says:

We are off on Sunday to the USA for a month. I don’t bother about the exchange rate now cos it is what it is. I also use cards with FX fees for spend targets. I just don’t buy as much stuff as I used to and just enjoy the experience and the food. At least the petrol is still alot cheaper!

        • Binks says:

I recall the £ to $ Ex rate peaking at $2 per £ around Xmas 2007.

      • Roger* says:

that was a comment to Shoestring at 10:29

      • RussellH says:

You beat me to it about ‘half-a-dollar’ and £1=$2.80.
        🙂
But after a holiday job in Germany during the summer between school and uni I was charged DM13,40 (=€6,70) for £1 when changing my earning back ionto sterling.
And yes, I can remember CHF being worth less than DM too. I recall being really annoyed when I needed to buy a tram ticket in Basel after crossing the border from Germany, and not (yet) having any Swiss money, so having to pay the same numbers in DM.
The situation had reversed by the time I was living in Switzerland.

        • Lady London says:

Well RussellH you’ve beaten me I can only remember 8 or so CHF to £1

      • Lady London says:

I can even remember $2.20 and I’m not that old.

  • Aston100 says:

I wonder if there are any plans to put the new club suite into the Bangkok BKK route soon.
As I understand it, the current planes and decor are pretty dated, and obviously don’t have a first class.
The BA ex AMS route to BKK is usually pretty cheap, so if that price stays and the new club suites go in, that would be quite a decent thing to look forward to.

    • Lady London says:

I’ve got a feeling British Airways is going to drop First Class off any routes they put this new Business class on. Would make sense. With the introduction of PY it was clear 4 classes wasn’t going to really be sustainable for many airlines esp at the top end. First Class is more about private jets and exclusivity now and hard to sell to those very few people who are looking for true First Class. Necessary though for ultra long journeys due comfort/safety appeal of more engines though.

    • Clive says:

      Doubt it for two reasons;

      1. Primarily a leisure route
      2. Flight times are dreadful so most Business travelers take alternative routings.

  • Matthew says:

OT: Seems to be tickets available again for the Jessie J concert at Abbey Rd Studios incase anyone missed out last time…..

OT Lloyd’s upgrade voucher. How do you now know if you’ve qualified for one given Avios login doesn’t work? Pretty sure I’ve spent the £7k required.

  • Shoestring says:

you forgot to add: don’t touch with a bargepole at this price

  • Steve says:

OT – flying through IST new airport which has no lounges with PP. Any way of getting lounge access with an Amex Plat? Thanks 🙂

  • Chris says:

Struggling to refer to a different Amex card type. Tried different browsers but still the same problem. The other cards are showing in the list but when you click view details it just links back to the same card that the referral has come from. Any ideas? Thanks

    • Chris says:

Figured this out if anyone is having problems. Use private browsing mode and it works
