We did a long piece yesterday on RED by Dufry, the loyalty scheme which covers the duty free stores at 27 UK airports – plus Eurostar and Eurotunnel – as well as many other European airports. You can read it here.

As was pointed out in the comments, you can get 300 free RED by Dufry points by simply adding the promo code RED300POINTS to your account.

Open the app, click ‘My Profile’ in the top right corner, click ‘My Profile’, scroll down to ‘Promotional code’ and add RED300POINTS. Importantly, you must then scroll down to the bottom of the page to click ‘Save Changes’.

The 300 points go on instantly. You can’t exchange these for anything but you are moved closer to Gold status which usually requires 2,000 points.

There is confusion over Avios earning

There is some confusion over whether you do now earn Avios for purchases made outside Spain. The restrictive wording on the Iberia Plus website is no longer there, and the addition of US chain Hudson to the list of Dufry brands which earns Avios made me think it was now global.

If you look at the terms of the Avios offer on the Spanish Dufry site, however, it implies that this is only a Spanish offer.

I would trust the T&Cs over the Iberia website, so you should assume that I was wrong in the original version of the article yesterday and that Avios earning is not yet global.

My last use of Dufry card was at LHR in March. I got the 5% off and RED points but no Avios to the Iberia linked account this time. I have had a few Avios post from shopping at Madrid in February- so it works, but in my n=1 experience at maybe not in the UK (unless it was just an unlucky transaction.)

        Platinum Travel? Fee free on purchases and foreign ATM withdrawals, even if you don’t pay until your direct debit is collected after your statement. None of this immediate payment faff that Clarity requires on ATM withdrawals.
        
        I mean, Barclaycard Plat Travel doesn’t give any rewards, so I use lots of legacy ones for purchases (Lloyds Avios, Horizon, Cap1 Plat), but Barclaycard is the best ATM option after you’ve used up your free Curve limit (or it’s a weekend).

  Depends on your Avios/cash valuation. If you won’t miss the extra £720 and collect *A miles, then LX or LH is a better deal, as you’ll earn a good number of miles. I’ve always found LH J adequate, and my one experience in LX J was also.

  They are not comparable, BA is flexible with the £35 fee, the others are not. So, BA if flexibility is important to you. If not, the one that offers the best compromise on flight times and duration. I also think a380 wins by a country mile but would love to fly any variant of a 747 one more time, 777s are horrible.

  Sooner than the BA option, unless I had a 2-4-1 needing using promptly, I think I’d wait for a cash sale, on a OneWorld airline possibly as well as BA.

OT please. I have a pretty huge HMRC bill to pay to a department that doesn’t appear to have a payment portal (and strangely enough, no real way of knowing that I should be making this payment in the first place – certainly an opportunity for the unscrupulous to take advantage of). I have been given the HMRC sort code and account number in Shipley (as far as I can see, the same as for many other payments) to which I need to append the reference number. From experience is there any way to make this payment via a readily available HMRC portal rather than via bank transfer? Or do any credit cards have the ability to make bank transfer like payments? Many thanks.

  I paid in a couple of years NI contributions last year which only take bank transfer and not credit or debit cards. I loaded the money into Revolt in smaller chunks and paid via bank transfer that way. Still got my IHG pts.

    This is an outlier subject at HMRC. They don’t have a contact number or email. But that’s not surprising as It’s such a specialist area that I don’t suppose they have many such payments.

I stayed at the Murano hotel two years ago when it was an MGallery. It has a good location with a water bus stop just outside. I wouldn’t think Murano is an obvious choice if this is your first trip to Venice but it’s worth considering if you fancy something a bit different.

OT again! Has anyone stayed at the Martinique on Broadway (Curio collection)? I have a 3 night points booking at the Embassy Suites Manhattan at the end of May but the Martinique is showing at about $250 per night which is quite reasonable for NYC and I could save my points for a 5 night stay at a later date. As gold we’d get breakfast anyway, so that’s not a factor.

  Have stayed there when it was a Radisson and it was nothing special. There is a FlyerTalk thread on it since it became a Hilton and seams positive overall. The location of it is very good IMO
