IHG has opened its first property in Venice – Hotel Indigo Venice Sant’Elena. See here for full details.
Long-term readers will remember that we originally discussed this project last year. Hotel Indigo Venice Sant’Elena is located next to the canal ‘Rio Sant’ Elena’, within walking distance to the Castello district, a 15-minute walk from St Marco Square. This is one of the quieter areas in Venice. Converted from an old convent built in the 1930’s, the 75 room Indigo has two wings joined in the centre by a former chapel.
The hotel used to operate as a Best Western Premier but has been remodelled and, I have to say, looks good. A photo of the courtyard is below.
A 51-room boutique InterContinental is still due to open in Venice at some point, but the project has faced substantial delays and I wouldn’t hold your breath.
As a redemption, the Hotel Indigo is 40,000 IHG Rewards Club points per night. Flexible rates seem to jump around between €200 and €320 depending on date, so you should get decent value here compared to my default valuation of 0.4p per IHG point.
