Get 1,000 Virgin Flying Club miles for starting Tesco Clubcard points auto-conversion

Virgin Atlantic has launched a Tesco conversion inducement.

It seems that Virgin Atlantic is NOT offering a transfer bonus this quarter to anyone who is thinking of converting their Tesco Clubcard points to Virgin Flying Club miles.

There is, however, a bonus of 1,000 Virgin miles for anyone who sets their Tesco Clubcard account to auto-convert future vouchers directly into Flying Club.

I do not recommend this, because it makes more sense to keep control over your vouchers and only redeem them when you need to book a flight.  This means that you won’t miss a future conversion bonus or a good deal from another Clubcard partner.

However …. you can turn on auto-convert and then, as long as the 1,000 miles arrive in time, turn it off before the next Clubcard mailing.  There is also no risk in turning it on if you don’t expect to have a lot of Clubcard points next quarter.

Instructions on how to set up auto-convert can be found on the Clubcard page of the Virgin Atlantic website here.

The offer runs until 16th June.

OT – Trying to save myself the time of suck it and see – which cards do\do not get charged for Revolut topup please? TIA

    • Jonathan says:

Rob’s favourite airline miles earning Mastercard was fine last month

    • Bagoly says:

The one that earns 1.25 miles per GBP gets charged.

  • Colin JE says:

On topic: if I select autoconvert for Clubcard to Virgin miles will it convert existing vouchers or only new points awarded in the quarter?
Tesco says: “When you sign up to automatically convert your Clubcard Points, every one of your Clubcard Points will be converted to Flying Club miles.” That sounds like everything to me.
I’m okay with converting new points for the quarter, but not all my existing vouchers!

    • Genghis says:

Only new points awarded in next quarter.
The sentence “When you sign up to automatically convert your Clubcard Points, every one of your Clubcard Points will be converted to Flying Club miles.” is correct since points which have been converted to vouchers are vouchers and not points.

  • Catalan says:

Can anyone advise me on how to actually switch the Tesco/Virgin auto convert on. I’ve clicked the link provided by Rob. I’ve then signed in but cannot for the life of me find any other link to the auto convert option. I’ve done it the past so can’t understand why not now.

    • Lumma says:

It’s under voucher schemes. There’s 4 options. Standard vouchers, Christmas saver, virgin and BA

    • Catalan says:

Found it (finally). Thanks to you both. I was about to throw my laptop out the window!!

  • James says:

OT Does buying Avios count as having earned Avios in regards to being eligible to book a Rewards Flight Saver as these tickets require one to have earned at least 1 Avios in the past 12 months?

    • Rob says:

I believe so, yes. But £31 for 1000 isn’t great value so if you can them by another route it makes more sense.

      • pauldb says:

I’d bit a lot less confident. In the account expiry rules, earning and purchasing as distinct activities.

    • Shoestring says:

Buy some batteries from 7dayshop (£2 delivered) on the BA Shopping Portal.

Or a £2.80 secondhand book from Abebooks.

Good for a couple of Avios.

  • Alex says:

I am looking to book LHR-HKG via FRA in the recent sale with Lufthansa business class. Our flight has come up with 1hour45mins connection time – Is this adequate? I have never been to FRA so not sure how it works – Would it be better to choose a longer time? and spend time in the airport lounge?

    • Stu N says:

1h 45 should be fine – the non-Schengen bit of the Lufthansa terminal is fairly compact and if you have to re-clear security then Fast Track at FRA is pretty quick. You’d probably only have 30-45 mins of lounge time though if that’s a major consideration.

      • Alex says:

Thank you – If it is enough time then i am happy to not spend time in the lounge.

        • BlueHorizonuk says:

I had a 1 hour connection recently and made it with time to spare

  • Nick_C says:

OT – cheapest ATMs for withdrawing cash in NYC anyone? (Using Monzo, Revolut, or Curve plus Lloyds Avios MC)

    • Kai says:

MBNA Horizon – no forex, cash advance or ATM fee if using a Bank of America one.

      • Matthew says:

I assume you get charged interest from day 1 – so you just pay off immediately or how best to manage?

      • AlexT says:

You sure that’s still the case? MBNA is now owned by LLOY, not BAC

        • Kai says:

          Wasn’t charged a fee yesterday

          • Chabuddy geezy says:

TD bank was free when I used it years ago. A HSBC atm charged me $3 last month.

  • Voltron says:

OT – Anybody have any success buying gift cards instore on Tesco using the Tesco clubcard money off vouchers? Recently got £10 off £70 voucher through but last time tried to buy on self check out never worked

    • mark2 says:

It is not possible to buy gift cards at a Tesco self service till. I have bought many gift cards with moc in the past. Look for a dozy cashier.

    • Nick_C says:

Following Shoestring’s advice, I’ve bought several GCs with MOCs. Never had a problem with the cashier. But don’t take the mickey. A £50 gift card and £20 of groceries works fine for me.

  • Anna says:

OT – something weird happening with Paypal. I’ve just tried to make a payment and noticed that my 2 Amex cards have been removed from the account, and when I’ve tried to re-add them, I’ve only been given the option to add Visa or Mastercard. Anyone else affected?

    • Anna says:

Though more weirdness – when I’ve gone into my Paypal account directly and not from the BA payment page, the 2 Amex cards have reappeared!

However, another payment (to Amazon) last night appeared on my Mastercard statement today (I had an Amex set as default), so there is definitely something strange going on.
