Hilton Honors launches new ‘double points’ hotel promotion for May to September

Hilton Honors has just launched its new Summer promotion which is now open for registration.

The promotion is called ‘Go More, Get More‘.

To give Hilton credit, it is very straightforward with minimal small print:

You will earn DOUBLE Hilton Honors base points for every stay between 6th May and 8th September, starting with your second stay.

For most brands, you will earn 10 base points per $1 spent, plus an additional 10 promotional points plus any status bonus.

Given that I value a Hilton Honors point at around 0.33p, you are getting a good return on your spending here. 20 points per $1 is an 8.5% rebate and that is before you add in any status bonus.

There are also additional targets for heavy stayers:

10,000 bonus points after 10 stays

+ a further 15,000 bonus points after 15 stays (total of 25,000)

+ a further 20,000 bonus points after 20 stays (total of 45,000)

There is no cap to what you can earn. The only snag is that – and I am not very happy with Hilton for doing this – you only earn double points from your SECOND stay after 6th May.

This is a mean clause, much loved by Marriott, and means you may need to waste time and money doing a mattress run if you have a particularly expensive Hilton stay coming up over the Summer.

There is not much small print except that:

you need to register in advance via the Hilton website

the bonus only starts from your SECOND stay after 6th May

Apart from that, all is good:

There is no minimum stay requirement

Existing bookings still count

All Hilton Family properties (Hilton, Hampton, Curio, Waldorf-Astoria, Conrad etc) are taking part – there is no list of non-participating hotels

Remember that the Home2 Suites and Tru brands earn a lower 5 base points per $1.

The small print confirms that reward stays do count towards the 10 / 15 / 20 stays additional bonuses. You will also receive double base points on your food and drink spend on reward stays (note that Hampton and a few smaller brands do not give points for incidental spend).

The only point which is not clear is whether a reward stay counts for the ‘first stay which doesn’t earn double points’ qualifier. I would guess that it does count, because the stay triggers an elite credit for status purposes.

Remember that Hilton is still offering a status match

If you have top tier status with another hotel programme, Hilton Honors will give you a 90 day free trial of Hilton Diamond or Gold status.

You need to supply a screenshot showing your top tier status in another programme plus a screenshot showing a paid stay in the previous 12 months.

If you complete eight stays (note it is stays, not nights) during the 90 days you will keep your Diamond status until 31st March 2020. If you only manage four stays you will receive Gold status until 31st March 2020.

Hilton’s new ‘double base points’ is a decent offer, especially for people doing longer, more expensive stays. You should make sure you register here if you have any Hilton stays coming up over the next four months.

Even without Hilton Honors status, you will be earning 20 points (which I value at 6.6p) per $1. This is an 8.5% rebate on your spending. Anyone with Hilton status will do even better.

If you trigger the additional bonuses, they are worth up to an extra £7.42 of points per stay on top. This is based on getting 45,000 additional points for 20 stays, and valuing the points at 0.33p each.

Even if you don’t have any stays planned, it is still worth registering just in case – a lot can happen between now and 8th September.

Terms for the existing promo says bonus points will be earned only for nights consumed within the promo period, regardless of checkin or checkout being outside, of which they would…

The new promo says it’s valid for stays completed from 6 May, which a 4-6 May stay would be (completed on 6 May, that is)…I understand I’d get nothing for this, but would it count as the pointless ‘stay 1’?

      Seems to be a bit of contradiction between the start and the end of that paragraph. “completed May 6″…. “if the stay is completed after May 6”.

      This new promotion seems to give about half the incentives of the current one. At least, for anyone that doesn’t stay 15 nights within the period. Er, sorry, that’s 16 nights that are needed before you really benefit. They’ve Marriott-ized it, meanly, meaning your first stay doesn’t count.
      
      10 stays for 10000 (previously 5 stays for the same). Er, no… actually 11 nights. Because the first night you gave Hilton as a “freebie” to gain access to the promotion. Hmmm.
      
      It seems only those who stay lots of nights with Hilton, and who were going to stay lots of nights with Hilton ayway, will benefit. It seems clear Hilton wants to reward those who really stay a lot of nights. Did I say a lot of nights with them?
      
      For the rest (and that’s me so far as I can tell right now) I will wait to see if other hotel groups do anything useful. I ca’;t invest anything in Hilton until I see at least 11 nights I can give them before early September.
      
      You’d have to be really sure you are going to stay at least 11 nights in th
      e period, to get anything at all out of it. That’s only 10,000 points for 11 nights. 10,000 Hilton points does not buy much at all.
      
      I can’t see the promotion changing many people’s behaviour over to Hilton, unless they were going to give that number of nights to Hilton anyway. So they’ll just end up rewarding those who stay lots of nights already, and to those who can be sure they’ll do those lots of nights all with Hilton. Not those whose nights can swing to another group.
      
      I think I will end up passing this one by and doing just as well with fewer nights elsewhere.

      LL, you mean “stays” where you said “nights”. Because if you have a 15 night stay then you will get nothing from this promo. If you have a 1-night stay followed by a 15-night stay, you’ll get the double points and nothing else.

Poor offer! I was really expecting a little more and the sneaky 2nd night in the T&C’s really annoys me. I have 27 nights over the summer and will happily consider IHG now if they offer something a bit better.

  I’ve shifted from BA Gold [earned properly] to Star Gold [earned properly]. And Hilton Diamond [earned propertly] to IHG Spire [earned properly] and Hilton Diamond [earned not so properly]. Hilton and BA both lost my business a couple of years ago. These constant 2x promotions from hilton – why not devalue in half again and make them 4x?! It is a nonsense. Like for like – now that a significant majority of Crowne Plazas offer lounge access to Spires – IHG wins [for me ] over Hilton. And as to get any decent legroom in domestic and Euro flights you need to be CE – there’s no point in BA silver and apart from GF, the T3 Cathay lounge, the Hong Kong Cathay lounge, and a couple of other emerald lounges – what’s the point of BA gold over BA silver? My answer is: little. Which is why Star are getting my long haul business now instead of BA! Same logic applies to Hilton and IHG – just in case I rambled a bit.

    I’m the opposite to you. I can’t (or don’t want to spend the money needed to) earn IHG Spire properly, but 30 stays at Hilton is easy. However, IHG renewed my Spire for this year when they weren’t supposed to. (I didn’t renew Amb.) I’m BA Gold and *G.
    
    Most CPs I used to stay in either don’t have a lounge, or used to give it free to Spires, but stopped doing this in 2018. The ones that still do, have raised their average rates by £25 or so per night, or increased their points requirements to an amount not worth paying. And Hilton lounges range from OK to excellent, but CP lounges range from lousy to good.
    
    Legroom on BA is in the exit rows, which are usually in ET. Other European airlines aren’t any better.
    
    BA Gold gets you first wing and double avios on BA. Emerald usually gets recognised on other OW airlines, but everybody is *G, so *A airlines only recognise their own *G and their top elite tier, as there is no Star-wide Emerald equivalent.

    For me the point of BA Gold was the QF First Lounge at SYD, plus better luggage allowance which I really need. I agree with you about most of the other lounges. CX Lounges overall are my favourite. However CX has been looking at cost cutting lately so who knows if this will hit the quality of their lounges. But do not worry I have a feeling British Airways will be along soon with something that will Add a big difference between Gold and Silver. (or, more likely, Subtract from Silver to ensure there will be a gap.)

This is great news! Have a lengthy stay at a Conrad in May, booked the first night using points separately which if I’m right should be classed as my first stay, the subsequent nights will be my ‘second stay’ and accrue double points. Fingers crossed Maldives Waldorf getting closer!

  Usually the Garden Inn at Heathrow (outside Hatton Cross tube). I did a couple there when I was on the Diamond Challenge. The Hampton at Excel, a couple of minutes from Prince Regent DLR, is also cheap if there is nothing on at the Excel centre – and madly expensive if there is.
  
  When the Motto hostel (yes, a hostel) opens next year these things should get a little easier.

    Done the Excel many time as it’s handy for LCY airport, but if you need to be more central I find the Doubletree West End on Southampton Row always seems to be cheap for the central location. Always seems to have refurb work going on too.

    Just to also add I’ve done quite a few at excel but ALWAYS found the doubletree was cheaper, bearing in mind these are almost always Sunday stays. If you have a car, doubletree has free parking,

      Found the Excel quite frustrating as the TV channel choice is generally cr*p ( Haven’t got myself sorted yet to carry my own i-stuff, netflix etc.). They could do better and would not cost them much averaged over the number of rooms they have.
      
      I will be doing the Doubletree (formet Jury’s Inn at Hatton Cross) next time I have to do any H in London. Am always careful to avoid the other Doubletree at Heathrow, also a former Jury’s and something else before that, that is way over the other side of the airport and definitely not as near to T2/T3 as their blurb suggests. Also it’s clear the Hatton Cross one is the one to go for relative quality-wise.

      Basically only accessible by car though. If you’re passing by anyway then it works. There are sparse buses that run nearby.
      
      Hilton Croydon is often £40 or so, breakfast is good, but hotel is getting old; frequent bus to East Croydon (driving is pretty horrible unless you arrive late and leave early).
      
      Hamptons in Birmingham can be £40 on slow nights for those who are nearer there.

      Hampton Croydon seems much better rated and placed (really close to East Croydon station side entrance) than Hilton Croydon. Hampton showing its age and rooms are even tinier than, say, the Excel (and Excel is a quarter of the Hampton room size in Florida). However Hampton Croydon seems to be well run for its price level and finally -a chain hotel that provides some pretty well cooked and relatively decent bacon at breakfast. I’m sure I will be staying against especially when I am in and out of LGW and they do seem to have aircrew staying there too.

I learnt this about Hilton yesterday. To book an accessible room it costs you double points on standard redemption and money. That’s in Tokyo .
So decided to save my points and book a room with separate shower. Their standard rooms only have combination shower/bath and not suitable. By comparison hotel in Dubai is 30k a night for standard room with separate shower.

  Japan’s hotels are notorious for not having accessible rooms. I read an article last week that lots of hotels are asking Paralympic athletes to pay for making rooms accessible and putting them back to standard rooms after!
