British Airways adds extra Mumbai flights following the collapse of Jet Airways

Following the collapse of Jet Airways, British Airways has moved to fill the capacity gap on the London to Mumbai route.
From 2nd June, BA will operate an additional four flights per week to Mumbai. The additional service will operate on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday outbound.
BA has already cancelled certain Mumbai flights in late June due to lack of aircraft, caused by continuing issues with the Boeing 787-9 fleet. It will therefore be July before we see the full benefit of this additional flight.
There should be good Avios availability on this new service as it has only just been added to the schedule, so if you had tried and failed to find seats to Mumbai recently it is worth looking again.
However, as Jet Airways had been operating up to three flights per day from Heathrow to Mumbai, overall capacity is still substantially reduced and you can expect to see higher fares and fewer Avios seats going forward.
It will be interesting to see if Virgin Atlantic, which already flies to Delhi, takes the opportunity to add Mumbai too.
