You can book these hotels for stays until 31st May.

Crowne Plaza Manchester Oxford Road lounge review

PointBreaks has changed …..

Historically all PointBreaks rooms cost a flat 5,000 IHG Rewards Club points per night.

This was a great deal, except for the teeny tiny fact that the selection of hotels had been getting progressively worse for the last couple of years.  If you were looking for a good deal in a major tourist centre then you were going to be disappointed – although it was handy if you wanted a weekend break in Doncaster.  This has now changed.

The 95 hotels on the list below are priced at between 5,000 and 15,000 IHG Rewards Club points per night.  In general the quality of hotels included has gone up since the 5,000 point cap was removed, although at the end of the day it always depends on how the list fits around your travel plans.

What are the PointBreaks highlights?

Not surprisingly the better deals are at the 15,000 points level.  Of the hotels in Europe:

Crowne Plaza Manchester Oxford Road is BRAND NEW and very pleasant.  See photo above.  We reviewed Crowne Plaza Manchester Oxford Road late last year – click here.  It is well worth 15,000 points.

Holiday Inn Express London Hammersmith is also 15,000 points.  This is a decent option for anyone looking for a discounted option very close to central London, and of course breakfast is included.

The Holiday Inn Express in Hamburg is fairly new but Hamburg rates are generally low and you may still get a better deal by paying for somewhere better

InterContinental Sofia looks like the highest-end option in Europe This hotel is brand new (May 2018) and is a good excuse to try Bulgaria if you’ve never been.  There is a daily BA flight to Sofia which takes three hours.

How to book a PointBreaks room

PointBreaks availability is limited so book ASAP if you are interested.

You can book via the IHG PointBreaks page here or via the standard booking page here.

You are able to book these hotels for dates up to 31st May.

You allowed a maximum of two bookings per individual hotel. Each booking can be for as many nights as you want.  Remember that if you attempt to amend your booking later by dropping a night or two the whole booking may reprice at the full rate.

Just booked the CP Oxford road, first time I have found something on pointbreaks that fits in with plans I have!

  • BJ says:

HIX Inverness will be a steal at 25k around Easter and May bank holidays when prices could hit £150/night. Note this is no longer a good hotel for the airport unless you are happy to pay £18 each way for a taxi. The airport bus no longer calls at the adjacent retail park but somebody did report previously driver stopped on main road next to hotel to let them out even though there is no official stop.

    • BJ says:

      *15k (normally 35k)

    • Axel says:

I noticed lots of overseas tourist dump their hire cars at Inverness airport

So £1 one way car hires back to Glasgow airport always an option if you have time or wish to cruise past loch lomond

  • Dale says:

Pretty poor selection, only one hotel in Georgia? No good for the May trip then!

    • John says:

Yes, my friend said Batumi is the new Dubai so maybe IHG should consider expanding 🙂

  • Roger says:

OT- but IHG points from Creation – has not been credited to my IHG account. Statement date is 10th of month, which shows the points but missing on IHG account.

What is the quick way to ensure the points are credited to my account?

    • Steve-B says:

I’d call Creation as they usually post promptly on statement day +/- a day. That said they were several days late to post last month and are a couple of days late this month so far.

      • Matt says:

Mine haven’t hit my IHG account yet either. I’ll wait till the end of the week before calling.

      • Grant says:

No points for me yet either this month. First month of having the card so wasn’t sure what to expect. Statement date was 21/02.

      • Jon says:

Mine were late in February. I filled out the missing points form on the IHG website and they got it sorted quite quickly.

I recommend the IC in Sofia. Had a very pleasant stay over NYE. Great quality Club Lounge.

    • Alan says:

Agreed -stayed in Dec, fantastic staff, great breakfast spread in the main restaurant too and got a nice late checkout.

      • John says:

I stayed last summer, and agree with the above. Great AMB multi-level upgrade.

The lounge is nice, however, when booking on Pointsbreaks you will need to pay a fee of BGN 78.23/night if you want access.

I don’t feel this is worth it on a paid stay given the low prices of restaurants in Sofia. But if you think IHG points are worth 0.3p then your 15k stay only costs £45 (or £60 at 0.4p) so may still be a good deal.

  • Sandgrounder says:

Bagged four nights at the new Staybridge in Seattle. I wasn’t hopeful but my number came up this time. 🙂

  • Mr. AC says:

I have a mate over in Thailand that could benefit from IC in Pattaya. However, points are in my account… Is there a way to book a room for him, or does it have to be me checking in?

    • Genghis says:

Put him down as second guest

      • BJ says:

Mr AC should go ahead and make the reservation as you suggest but then email the hotel to confirm it is ok. I know at least one hotel in Bangkok that does not accept this, they have too many problems with fraud.

    • John says:

Don’t think it will work as hotels in Thailand need ID from all guests (including their visa number or Thai ID number). Unless it’s approved in advance by the hotel.

  • Julie says:

Just cancelled my IC Sofia for March and rebooked. Good timing.
