The last British Airways Boeing 767 flight took place yesterday

At 22.35 last night, the arrival of the British Airways flight from Larnaca marked the final commercial Boeing 767 flight for the airline.

Both remaining aircraft are due to fly out of Heathrow on Monday to the BA maintenance facility in Wales – I’m not sure what will become of them but it seems unlikely they will fly again.  There were originally 11 aircraft in the fleet, with the first arriving in 1989.  At one point the fleet grew to 28 although many ended up being leased to other airlines.

I was thinking of putting together an article on the British Airways 767 fleet but it turns out that it has already been done, far better than I could have done it, in this article by a BA pilot.  I strongly recommend you read it if you’re interested in this sort of thing.

In truth, it is being polite to say that the British Airways fleet had seen better days.   The regular random pinging of call bells was a common complaint, something which gets annoying on a four hour flight, as were complaints over water leakage from the galley running down the cabin.  And the broken seats.  And arm rests.  And tray tables.  And the locked-out loos ….

You can either remember them via the picture I used above, or via this picture taken a couple of weeks ago by a friend of mine (click to enlarge):

OT: BA have said my trip to Berlin from London City has been replaced with a aircraft from Stobart Air. Should I be happy or worried about this?

  • Nick says:

On the LLoyds Avios Amex/Mastercard account:

I often get these double entries – any idea what they are?

An adjustment to your account £11.60 (debit)
    and the same day
An adjustment to your account £11.60 (credit)

OT: My sister and her husband booked a return LHR->DEL in WT+ through a travel agent (not direct with BA). On the return leg, they were told WT+ was full and were down-graded to WT. They were given £75 each in BA gift cards and allowed to use the lounge and told to contact their travel agent who should chase BA for the difference in the fair price between WT+ and WT which will then get refunded. They have called the agent who said they will get back to them. Is there anything else they should be doing in this case or any more compensation they can expect? Thanks

  • Lumma says:

OT does anyone know if the lounge in Lisbon airport is worth the £20 after using my two free passes with lounge club?

    • meta says:

Not really. There are not hot food options, just a couple of sandwiches and they do pastel in the morning. The drinks selection is quite poor last time I was there mid-June.

      • Lumma says:

Thanks. I’ll just get something in the airport then

        • Stu N says:

If it’s the ANA lounge then I wouldn’t bother either. They were turning Priority Pass people away anyway (mid-morning on a Monday in October). I had access via BA status, but wouldn’t say you were missing much.

        • Leo says:

I thought it was miserable and dark tbh.

        • Lumma says:

I would expected more from a lounge ran by ANA. Or is that not the airline we’re talking about?

        • meta says:

It is not run by ANA the airline, but by ANA – Aeroporto de Portugal, a company wholly owned by the Portuguese government!

        • Lumma says:

This was all a moot point anyway. I didn’t realise there was a separate terminal for the low costs. Had to make do with a McDonald’s instead

  • Benylin says:

OT: Shangri-La – when booking with corporate rate through work, can you still use your Jade status for free breakfast? Also do they ever ask for work ID? Thanks

    • Andrew (@andrewseftel) says:

Golden Circle benefits apply even on OTA bookings, I think.

May be worth checking against Virtuoso as their rate gets you a $100 F&B credit per stay and a guaranteed upgrade to next room category.

  • Phil says:

OT – First time booking flights through points, will be transferring from amex membership rewards points to baec.

Have been looking at flight for next summer Heathrow to St Petersburg in Russia. BA is pricing a one way economy flight as 10,000 points + £59.62 – should it not be only £17.50 (as a reward saver flight) + 10,000 points?

    • Rich says:

      Prices at £17.50 for me.

Remember that RFS is only available if your BAEC account has earned or burned in the last year. Has it? I would imagine the transfer in from Amex will do the trick anyway.

    • pauldb says:

Yes the Amex points will be valid earnings and correct your fees.

    • BJ says:

If you have enough points/avios you might want to consider trying to route one direction via Helsinki with AY so you can visit there too and experience business class on AY a350.
