Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Get £400 off £800 with an Expedia Black Friday package deal – between 9am and 9.15am

Expedia has decided to join the fray of Black Friday deals with a potentially very generous offer which they have time-limited to a 15 minute booking window tomorrow morning.  You can only get it on Friday between 9am and 9.15am – and even then you need to be lucky.

Get £400 off selected flight + hotel packages over £800 (before taxes)

It is not entirely clear how the offer works, to be honest.

Take a look here and try to get your head around it.

Normally we wouldn’t write about something so vague but the potential saving is so big that it seemed only fair to highlight it and let you make your own decision about whether it is something you want to chase.

Expedia Black Friday deal

From the terms and conditions of the offer, the more you read the more restricted the £400 saving appears. In particular the offer is only valid in these circumstances:

Provided that you spend a minimum of £800 GBP, (the price of the booking excluding any taxes, fees or additional costs) in one booking, the coupon code entitles you to £400 GBP off the price of the relevant travel reservation before the application of any taxes, applicable fees or additional costs.

The coupon code can only be redeemed for select flight+hotel package bookings (participating flight+hotel package bookings can be found here) [except that the list on that page does not make sense].

The coupon code may only be used in relation to the first room booked on an eligible single booking. This means that where the eligible booking includes more than one room, the coupon code will only be applied against the first room in the booking.

Since the coupon is only valid on the first room booked on select flight and hotel packages outlined on the page above, it would appear that only the Las Vegas, Orlando, Phuket and Bangkok offers would qualify for the minimum spend of £800 per room.  This makes no sense, and I am guessing that other properties appear or that this is not the actual list.

The travel dates are from Black Friday itself until the 31st March 2019, just narrowly missing the school Easter holidays.

The coupons will be released on this page on Expedia’s website at 9am tomorrow. Given the limited nature of the offer, it is unlikely that you will qualify unless you make your purchase in the first few minutes of the promotion.  On the other hand, with a potential £400 saving available, you may want to go for it.

I don’t think I can take any more excitement today Rob!

    • Alex Sm says:

Are they crazy or what? Or perhaps it’s a nice (or clumsy) way to create a bottleneck, get the website down and then say, well it’s over, no liability taken, the Black Friday box is ticked off, done, back to business as usual

      • Rhys says:

Given the numerous caveats this promotion comes with I certainly agree that it’s more of a PR stunt. Still, if someone can make it work it’s probably worth it.

  • Discount Mike says:

”extremely limited availability offer, strictly while supplies last.”

Just another marketing stunt. Shouldn’t spread this because it’s what they want.

  • LewisB says:

I understand some of these links will not be live until tomorrow, however the links to the t&cs is broken.

    • Rhys says:

I’ve just tested them and they appear to be working. You have to scroll down a little.

  • ankomonkey says:

I got a “Cyber Week Sale” upto 50% off at Hotels.com. Then I remembered that I get upto 50% off e-mails from them 250 days a year. The Expedia Group marketing idiocy continues…

    • Anna says:

And none of those hotels are ever where you want to go!

    • Lady London says:

+1 about hotels.com. I went away from them because of that repeated marketing of discounts which made no difference to the regularly achievable price.

      • MDA says:

Hotels.com are doing the same doubling the price then knockimg 50% off tonight only. Yeah right

  • Alex W says:

It looks like this should double stack with some of BA’s club world black Friday deals. Great deal of you can get it to work! Good luck everyone

  • Alex W says:

Interested to know if anyone got this offer in the end?

    • Dev says:

I managed to add the code but it wouldn’t work for the hotel I chose. Problem: couldn’t find a list of “participating hotels” anywhere so couldn’t book one within the given timeframe

    • Jay says:

Tried for hotel but didn’t go through.

      • tartan says:

Couldn’t find a flight and hotel combo that met the requirements.

There are a few other offers active on that page, for example, I managed to £25 off some New York Explorer passes for an upcoming trip.

  • Sanam says:

Same, I tried but it kept saying coupon isn’t valid for this hotel (was booking for Cape Town). When I looked back on the page with all the codes etc, it listed 8 flight and hotel deals that the £400 off was valid for. Tbh nothing to write home about, all European destinations so pretty cold during the next few months!
