Where you targeted for an American Express ‘£25 off £40 at Amazon’ promotion?

For a couple of years, Amazon has been offering a £15 discount on a £25 spend for anyone who links their Amex Gold or Amex Platinum card to their amazon.co.uk account and part-pays with Membership Rewards points.

It is still working – I did it on Saturday for my wife. This is what to do:

Link your Membership Rewards account with your Amazon account by visiting this page on the Amazon website (ignore the ‘£25 off £40’ offer described on that page)

Buy £25 of items on amazon.co.uk (these MUST all be sold by Amazon and not third party merchants, and excludes digital content and gift cards)

IMPORTANT: Items must be purchased in a single order and shipped at the same speed to a single address

You MUST select your Membership Rewards-earning Amex card as your payment card (you cannot use gift cards or any other payment source)

Part-pay for your order using Membership Rewards points. The sneaky option is to redeem just 10 points for a 5p discount. This saves you ‘wasting’ MR points on a low value redemption. You will only get 0.45p per point and you shouldn’t waste more than 10 of your valuable points on such a poor deal.

Do NOT add the code at this point. Click ‘Use This Payment Method’ and continue to the final payment screen.

Enter code AMEX16SWP at check out (the code must go in after you have selected part-payment with your Membership Rewards-registered card) – do NOT use AMEX25SWP which is the targeted £25 offer

As can see from the landing page above, there is also a TARGETED version of this offer doing the rounds. 8,400 people can save £25 on a qualifying purchase of £40.

Only one HfP reader has told me that they received an invitation. If you are spending £40, try out the £25 code to see if it works – it is AMEX25SWP – but if it fails then AMEX16SWP should work if you’ve never used it before.

Hosting Switch – Since the switch I am seeing the mobile version of the site on iPad. I cannot get the full site version I used to see. Is this a deliberate change ?

      What seems to be happening is that it is cacheing pages irrespective of the device used, so if a certain article is cached after being delivered to a mobile browser, it serves the mobile page to the next device that requests it irrespective of what that device is. It is more complex than that though, because our traffic is 50/50 mobile/non-mobile and the problem only impacts a small % of people.
      
      The key thing is whether this is a one-off thing, as regular readers get their browser cache refreshed after using the old server, or if it will keep recurring.

      I clicked the “go to full site” button at the bottom a couple of times and the problem seems to have gone away. It took a couple of clicks of the button before I could get it to open the home page as full site, but now it seems to be consistent.

Just tried the Amazon discount and it worked, but a slight ammendment to the steps above…

The steps state:
IMPORTANT: Items must be purchased in a single order and shipped at the same speed to a single address

This is true, however I had multiple purchase so I select the exact same option for all items “Free one day delivery” and it failed, but then what I noticed was the first item was Free One Day Delivery but to get it to work, I needed to ensure the other items where “Free delivery in fewest packages as possible” effectively joining all items into one single shipment.

    It is per Amex card. I linked my wife’s new Gold to my Amazon account and it worked, and I have definitely used the code on my Platinum card (via the same Amazon account) in the past.

      I have used the AMEX16SWP code twice on the same card (an Amex Plat). Successfully used it for the 1st time in Dec 2016. Just used it again today thks to reading this post & thinking I’d give it another try. Same card, same Amazon account, so don’t know why it’s worked twice other than maybe just enough time has expired since the 1st application. Would suggest others also see if the code works again for them. Unfortunately AMEX25SWP did not work; still I’m 15 quid better off (for the 2nd time) due to today’s HFP email – cheers Rob

      Interesting that you can use it twice again. Noticed this maybe 6 weeks ago and used it 5x on different family Amazon a/cs, all for the second time. They accepted it on our 6th Amazon a/c (for the second time) but then declined the sale/ cancelled the order (on common items).
      
      Might give it another go. Haven’t tried the new code yet.

OT – in relation to “Hong Kong ending ban on fuel surcharges” from 1st Nov ’18.

I had to change dates for my one-way BA flight next year (originally booked prior to 1st Nov ’18)

Routing stayed as HKG to MAN (via. LHR)

Additional ~£4 of taxes per person to pay (currency fluctuations maybe?), so looks like nothing has changed yet… that’s probably more to do with BA IT being slow off the mark though maybe?

Rob, two things I’ve noticed since the cutover (may or may not be related, but you did ask…!)
1. When I click ‘older comments’ on my phone it routes to the desktop rather than mobile view 50% of the time
2. Comments don’t appear immediately any more, only after a delay of 10-20 mins. Presumably this is related to the caching

Pages definitely do load quicker though!

Comments have defo been considerably slower loading. Cacheing great for static sites. Dynamic discussions may be less lively in the future on this technology… Could turn out to be a good thing I suppose.
