    Saw that, interesting. Would not be totally unlike BA to sell BA CityFlyer and have it all as a franchise.

  I posted a follow up comment on FT yesterday, in respect of not hearing anything from BA regarding a cancelled flight requiring an overnight stay.
  For those not aware, this is one particular note I made ;

  “The point I was going to make was the telephone side of BA. I was given a direct line to Customer Services, (uk) 0191 423 8749. I find it surprising that the opening hours are only Mon Fri 13.00 / 17.00. To try and get through is a bit like pulling teeth….usual thing ….”we are currently experiencing long waiting times etc.” I’ve just had to give up, I really feel that a 40 minute wait today is totally unacceptable.”

  OT – Rob. Did you get your Hilton credit £50 via Amex for your recent stays ? I stayed at the Hilton Syon park and seen the transaction shows it is still called Waldorf Astoria. Wondering whether to phone Amex as it might not appear at first look as a Hilton, even though it is.

      Just checked now and the credit is there….took about about a week to show. So if nothing works by then I’d try calling Amex to check…

      Yes, I did get my £50 – cumulative spend AND a pre-paid booking for part of it.

    There’s a (long) list of participating hotels in the Ts and Cs so if it’s listed you should be okay.

  As someone who has to use Flybe regularly (begrudgingly) I would love the idea of ownership by people who actually care. I live on the Isle of Man and our options to fly off the Island are BA to LCY (only convenient for when I am working in London), EZY to LGW/LTN/BRS (never convenient as flight times are terrible) or BE to MAN, BHX. We used to be a base for BE but that is being threatened at the moment and it worries me that the services off the Island will slip!

      Tell me all about it! Yesterday morning was major GWR disruption with all trains going upcountry from Cornwall cancelled or delayed until about 12 noon so we had to activate the Cobra plan like blue assed flies to get the kids to school.

      Those new bullet trains are pretty good-looking, though! I think ‘bullet’ is a bit exaggerated, but they look the part.

        Yes, they look nice from the outside, but AIUI they are underpowered for Cornwall and Ryanair (almost) seating. Almost all TOCs buy their seats from fainsa, who are cheap, but uncomfortable.
        Since ‘comfortable seating’ never gets written into franchise descriptions, it hardly ever gets provided.

        I’ve not had a single return journey between Cornwall and Paddington thats gone smoothly, either services ending at Plymouth booked as through to Penzance, seats not reserved (or available until after Taunton) and I use it about 6x a year. Flybe isn’t glamourous but its close on time and you get a seat.

        Not looking forward 5.5hours on the ironing board Fainsa seats. A move to Vancouver is looking more and more tempting.

  I did comment on that post that I would expect the FlyBe card to close – Didn’t think I would be proved right so soon.

  For my next prediction I would not be holding my breath for a relaunch anytime soon. I know that Avios will try and push a Iberia Cards issued card but their model does not fit with FlyBe’s goals for the programme.

    I know what Avios is doing with cards, it is quite interesting. The Lloyds ‘exclusivity’ deal was worded badly (if you’re Lloyds), let’s put it that way. It is also a very interesting opportunity for HFP.

        That would be awesome! A HFP card would earn avios and a choice of 2 4 1 or upgrade voucher, plus extra rewards for referrals… we can dream!

        Would it not make more sense for an HFP card to earn convertible points (like Amex MR, only more flexible), and while were at at it, a better earning rate and fabulous customer service?

          Curve offered me a HFP branded version but I felt it wouldn’t add much and may create issues over objectivity.

  OT question for people who travel more often than I do (or pay more attention than I do):

  At a US airport (specifically MSP, T1) after clearing immigration from an international flight, can I stay airside even without a connecting flight (in order to meet a friend who is flying out of the same airport) or will I be spat back landside?

    Ok topical point – flying lhr-bna via DTW tomorrow with Delta (get to try delta one which will be interesting)

    My assumption is I have to clear immigration at DTW is that right, but then still have to pass TSA again before connecting on to dtw-bna leg?

  Thanks for flagging this new route to Lyon.

  Been on the phone to BA for 30 minutes – they had no knowledge of the LGW – LYON flights until I specifically gave them the flight numbers (2618 & 2619). Those two flight codes are only showing up til mid March though, and not at all on the website… All very strange.

  Customer Service team didn’t have any knowledge of how to resolve. Very frustrating as keen to book!

  O/T AA flights West coast to Hawaii; Do saturday flights come available for redemption? on the AA website they are a lot more miles than Sun-Mon and in the avios university series on HfP it says only the lowest tier seats are bookable with avios.

    You can only book anything showing as a sAAver redemption. AA is generally not generous with space and you need to understand that Hawaii redemptions are super-prime, the equivalent of trying to book Sydney on BA with Avios.

    Try Alaska, might be easier. Requires a call to BA to book though.

      Thanks Rob, Got the outbound fine. There are 4 flights a day on AA LAX-HNL and they all have 7 seats. Except Saturdays. Ah well may end up with an extra day in Hawaii.

        Those AA award seats can disappear VERY fast – have an extra day in Hawaii and get your return booked! You can always cancel for the cost of the taxes if a Saturday flight appears.

      Alaska dont seem to have any seats for avios redemption when i rang to do the outbound, maybe they are released later than AA flights.
