  OT: Help please, am trying to transfer the Groupon earned Avios from Iberia Plus to my BA Executive Club account. It’s only showing me the option to transfer from BA to Iberia Plus and I have tried doing it from both BA and Iberia’s website. It says on Google that I can choose direction but every time I click on the direction arrow, it just stays there and it says in bold on both websites that I can only move them from BA to Iberia. Am I missing something? My BA account is part of a household so maybe that’s an issue? My Avios account is not really valid anymore. What do i do? Call them?

    My Septembers missing Marriott points from the Amex SPG monthly transfer were credited into my Amex account today.

    In what sense is your Avios account ‘not really valid’? If it is still open, you can use it to transfer. If it isn’t open, open a new one by using the Flybe website to open an Avios account – this one will survive the closure.

      Could it be because I didn’t even have 1 Avios in Iberia Plus? I’m still confused why it’s not letting me transfer out. I can try the Flybe route. Let’s see.

  perfectly sums up BA’s business attitude that they tried to save the tiny amount of money on IT setup costs by only having T5 work for BA flights, despite it now backfiring and probably costing more than if they done it properly in the first place.

  Nobody else finds the Iberia change at T5 annoying?

  The same setup (but in reverse) operates in Madrid’s Iberia-dedicated T4: if you’re flying on BA metal (regardless of prime flight number), you have to go to the BA checkin desks, which are located on the opposite side of the terminal’s business class / OW emerald & sapphire fast track security lane.

  Especially ridiculous considering they’re not just part of the OW alliance, they’re effectively the same company (IAG). Could’ve just kept on sharing checkin facilities, with the checkin agents using whatever underlying IT system needed to be used. That would’ve meant passengers being able to keep on using Club World counters that are close to South Security, and OW emerald’s being able to use the First Wing counters (not just the security lane).

  Zone E is effectively no man’s land.

    They are not the same company – effectively or not.

    They may have the same owner but that is not the same thing as being the same company

      100% owned by IAG. They’re the same business group, in the same industry, sharing resources and procedures. That’s why I said “effectively the same company” even if they’re separate entities operating under different brands. This is no different from John Lewis and Waitrose, which are effectively the same company too.

  I’ve just had an email from Billhop saying I now have to upload an invoice when I pay my cleaner! With the fee they charge they are making it really not worth the aggravation of using them. When is Curve re-embracing Amex?!

    Same reason I avoided paying my factor with billtop and hoping I can use my BAPP on curve soon. However, Rob has hinted that the amex Curve thing is not what we are all expecting so who knows.

      Bizarre because it’s rewarding 56,000 random people with 500 Avios with no required trade off. Normally you’d be enticed to spend more or with someone specific retailer, this is just a give-me. Happy to accept it but it does seem odd.

        Yes, it is costing Amex £280,000 with no return. It’s not as if it has been targeted at people whose cards are inactive.

        We have seen quute a bit of this recently though, particularly on platinum, but I admit none quite as ‘loose’ and generous as this. Perhaps amex see this as worthwhile as it will generate much goodwill and consequently lots of advertising via word of mouth.

      I think it could work big time and not just for youngsters. Sometimes all people want is a place to sleep so if Hilton or some other comes up with a high quality bed and bedding, a shower big enough to move in and a room that is clean and well maintained it could work for me. However, if they end up like a run down budget hotel then it’s a no. The interesting thing is that travelodge has had its own problems, how it will cope if all the major chains start offering something like this, I don’t know.

      It’s fairly classic marketing (=selling). You work out which segment (of your offering =hotels) you’re not in & is big/ potentially profitable.

      Can you supply that need with something compelling?

      Pod by Hilton somewhere decent sounds much more reassuring than dossplace in sh!thole.

      Points/ loyalty a big plus of course.

  I would totally be up for this if in prime locations (cheap redemption’s of course) – for the time i spend awake in hotel rooms the only thing i need is a bed and shower.

  Just a heads up on the Hertz deal. You can’t seem to book this from abroad. It comes up with an error message to say there are no locations in your country (Sri Lanka) all booking information was for London Heathrow in the uk . I contacted Hertz via twitter and they confirmed the issue was I was abroad. I asked them if they could resolve and they said only if I rang them at £1.80 per minute for what would be around 10-15 mins booking. I asked them for a whatsapp number and they said there is none. Not sure if anyone else had similar problem?
