Hertz to become the first non-airline member of the SkyTeam alliance

This is, I think, a world exclusive.  I was with Caroline Simmerman, the Hertz Europe partnerships director, at a reception in Amsterdam last night and she told our group that Hertz has just agreed a deal to become the first ‘non-airline member’ of the SkyTeam airline alliance.

It isn’t quite clear how this will work.  All 20 SkyTeam airlines will, presumably, now offer miles via Hertz although this is unlikely to be exclusive given existing deals.  There was no indication of whether you could match SkyTeam status to Hertz status although I would imagine it is likely.

A full announcement is coming soon where we will find out the full details.

Re Marriott Game. In the rules it lists availability of each prize and odds of winning. The 50pts instant win has 75,000 per day and a 1:2 chance of winning… down to 20,000 pts for 16 winners per day at odds of 1:9,698.

There are also 6 x 4night stays Instant wins over 29 named properties. All Instant prizes have a quoted Approximate Retail Value, with the 50pts stated as $0.45

    OT but Marriott related:
I have tried twice to do a Marriott “Refer-A-Friend” in order to set up an account for Mrs JJ. She has heard nothing from Marriott. Is it still operating or have referrals gone as part of the merger?
The reason for doing this is to try to get enough points to credit to United Mileage Plus in order to save a rapidly expiring balance. Any alternative ideas gratefully received…

I am in Laos at the moment and have had two goes at the competition. It wouldn’t let me try earlier today saying I had already tried today. I guess that was US time. It clearly says when you finish – come back tomorrow for another try.

I had the same yesterday, not sure what time it rolled over, but late afternoon AEST I was able to try again.

OT easyJet and CEDR: I recently opened a case against easyJet denying EC261 compensation. CEDR stated they will provide an initial assessment within 15 working days. The deadline was last Friday, and I haven’t heard back from them.
Has anyone had any previous experience with CEDR?
    Thanks!

Yes I have with easyJet and them. All went fine. Just log back in and make a comment maybe to jog them on.

Seems like I got lucky with the 3k points on the Marriott game first time, sad can’t play and win every day

Was looking at an ex-US First class redemption to Scandinavia recently, and it showed £ 150 in total taxes. Change of plans sent me over Mexico on the way home, which was around £ 200 in taxes.

It might be the same for AMS or other short flights from the US, making it possible to save £ 1.000 per person, less the expenses for positioning flights. Adds some hassle if the final destination is London though, but will give access to CCR before the onwards flight.

I really can’t see how hertz will be part of Skyteam – more likely an associate type member where flyers can book car hire with a dedicated PC code or at the very most similar to Avis with BA.
