Earn 9,000 Avios for a 3-day Avis weekend car rental

Avios (through Iberia Plus) and Avis have teamed up to offer another generous car rental promotion. It’s nowhere near as good as the ‘18,000 Avios for a weekend rental’ offer they ran 18 months ago but it is certainly pretty decent.

Here are the core terms and conditions:

You earn at least 9,000 Avios. This consists of 8,300 bonus Avios and the usual spend-based Avios award which, for a 3-day rental, is at least 700 Avios.

Your rental must include a Saturday night

Your rental must be for at least 3 days

You must rent a Group C car or higher

You must complete your rental by 15th December

You must book at iberia.com or rentacar-iberia.com or avis.es

Not valid on Corporate AWD rentals, Prestige rentals, Chauffeur Drive or Van rentals

Valid for all participating offices in Spain mainland, Balearics and Canaries, Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, France, Italy, Portugal, The Netherlands and United Kingdom

It may take 8 weeks for the bonus Avios to arrive

Vehicles must be collected and returned on the dates booked. Any cars not checked out and returned as per the booking will not qualify. [This means you cannot pick up the car, drive it around the block and return it immediately – it must be returned on the booked return date]

You need to credit the rental to an Iberia Plus account to receive the 9,000 Avios. You will NOT receive the points if you give a British Airways, AerClub, Vueling Club or avios.com number. You can move the Avios over to British Airways using the ‘Combine My Avios’ function on any of the Avios websites, although if your Iberia Plus account is brand new you will need to wait until it is 90 days old.

If you can pick up a car for £20 per day then you could pick up some reasonably priced Avios points here. That said, it isn’t worth doing purely for the points unless you have a convenient and cheap Avis depot near you and somewhere to park the car for 72 hours.

If you do need a car for a long weekend over the next two months, however, then this is well worth a look.

Tempting. £47 for a 3 day rental, 0.52p per mile. Just need to decide if it’s worth the hassle. Are they quick in posting the miles or is it really an 8 week wait?

Good luck with actually getting the Avios.

My experience of a number of Avis promos is that it takes literally months of chasing their appalling CS before you actually see anything credit 🙁

Add Iberia into the mix and you’re just asking for pain !

    That’s a bit different as IB promised to deliver the points within 10 days. They did a manual trawl and awarded them in bulk, not in 9000 point lots.

I know people complain a lot about issues getting the points… so just to give another story – i rent a lot as I don’t own a car so use these promotions from BA or Iberia heavily. I always got the points to post without issues except for the Black Friday offers in 2017. This was apparently due to a wide IT issue… but i got them in the end without much of a fight, through Twitter and then emails, with a good compensation as well.

  Exactly the same for me.
  I rented weekly when there was the Virgin 6,000 miles offer earlier this year. Every single one of them posted correctly.
  
  But I did use the specific link for the deal and I saw comments here about people trying to combine non-Virgin Avis AWD codes and then complaining as the miles didn’t post.

I’ve got an annoying situation with Avis – they’re claiming there’s damage to a car hired in July. But they’ve not sent any info to me or even an invoice. Does the Platinum hire car insurance work if using a Gold Business card??

  Both Visa and Mastercard have guidelines that state that banks should automatically issue a chargeback if a car rental company does not send an invoice for a repair when requested. I would recommend proceeding this way.

Slightly worrying thing is there is no book here link, the terms do specify which websites to use though. Last Avis/Virgin promos tracked fine for me, I did 6 I think and they tracked fine

What happens if you book for 3 days but return the car after 46 hours? I need a car from Saturday Lunchtime to Monday Morning during the promotion.

  I think a “day” counts as a 24 hour period. So your example above would not be a 3-day rental (Saturday lunchtime to Sunday lunchtime = 1 day, etc.). On the search box, somewhere at the bottom, it tells you how many days’ rental you are booking once you put in your details. I was also considering Saturday to Monday, but it told me that was only a 2 day rental. Had to add in a Friday to make it a 3 day one.
